Fans were stunned when her character, Lola Pearce, succumbed to brain cancer in May.

A TV source said: “Danielle is at the height of her career and in demand after her heartwarming EastEnders storyline, but it’s her appearance in the upcoming jungle series that has really caught the eye of ITV bosses.

“In addition to being a talented actress with a huge fan base, Danielle has a fun personality with a wicked sense of humor, making her an ideal camp friend for the show.

“It could propel her to superstardom at an exciting time in her acting journey.

“Talks are ongoing and the producers are trying to lure her with a lucrative contract.”

Since leaving the BBC1 soap after 12 years, Danielle has also won Best Lead Actress at the British Soap Awards and appeared on Channel 4’s Celebrity Hunted.

She was 18 when she joined EastEnders in 2011 as part of the Mitchell family.

But she spent her final year on the soap knowing she was leaving Albert Square after executive producer Chris Clenshaw told her about Lola’s difficult story.

The show worked closely with Brain Tumor Research and Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure every element was as true to life as possible.

Speaking about the last few weeks on set, she said: “It was hard to prepare for those last scenes. Medical advisors are there, step by step, helping me.

“I wore bigger clothes to create the illusion that I had lost weight.

“It’s hard to look at yourself, to see yourself so sick. But it has to be real.”

And last year, Danielle spoke of her ambitions to perform in the US, saying: “If Hollywood wants to call, I’m here. I would love to go to LA for pilot season.”

The next series of I’m A Celeb Australia is due in November, and This Morning host Josie Gibson, 38, will also take part in the cast.

ITV said: “All names suggested for I’m A Celebrity are speculation.”
