“We have been blessed to share nearly 3 decades together as husband and wife in a beautiful, loving marriage. Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to continue our personal growth,” Hugh and Deborra-lee told People.

The statement continued: “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We enter this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.

“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition in all of our lives.”

“This is the only statement either of us will make,” the pair concluded.

Hugh (54) and Deborra-lee (67) have two children: son Oscar (23) and daughter Ava (18).

The split comes just seven months after the Wolverine actor shared his advice on how his marriage lasted nearly three decades.

“I think it’s honesty and intimacy and making time. You can’t just assume things are just going to click. You have to make time,” movie star Myleene Klass told Smooth Radio while promoting her film, The Son.

“And intimacy means really sharing what you’re going through, feeling and checking in with the other person, checking in on what they need from you, checking in, how they’re doing, checking in and more,” he added.

Hugh shared, “Just because it’s so easy to get caught up in everyday life. It’s hard enough. Kids, school, whatever it is, sleepless nights, it’s tiring. So you have to check in with each other.

“Every morning we have time together, so we try so that the day can get away from you. And sometimes in the evening, I’m sorry, it’s not the best version of me until the evening. I’m tired, I want to check. I’m speechless for that day. They say that men have 2000 words a day.”

Hugh then revealed: “And so sometimes I’ll say to my wife, ‘I’m out of words, I’m out of words.’ And she’s like, ‘I got it.’ So we start the day together, meditate together and then just read a little bit from the book and just check in.”

‘I LIKE THIS GIRL’

Hugh and Deborra-lee met on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli back in 1995 and married just a year later.

“Deb, she was a big star… they picked me up and Deb is in the front seat of the car. I’ll never forget,” Hugh told People back in 2017 when they first met.

He recalled: “She took off her seat belt and turned around and reached out and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.’

“I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl.'”
