Hulk Is Getting His Own King In Black-Level Threat In New Series

Warning! Potential spoilers for Hulk #1 by Marvel Comics

The Hulk is about to face off against a large threat like the King in Black in the upcoming adventures of his new ongoing series at Marvel Comics. New Hulk writer Donny Cates answered some fan questions on Twitter last week and was asked if early issues would tease a more significant threat like the King in Black was in his Venom series with Ryan Stegman. His response? Yes.

In his runs on Venom (with Stegman) and Thor (with Nic Klein), writer Donny Cates has deployed a brilliant strategy while teasing future powerful villains early in the series’. In Venom, the King in Black’s arrival loomed large as the villain was teased from the get-go. It made the God of Symbiotes’ arrival much more frightening and exciting when he finally unleashed his symbiote army on the Marvel Universe. In Thor, after the God of Thunder defeated the Black Winter, it showed him his dark future as he saw Thanos turn the Avengers into his undead army while wielding an Infinity Stone-embedded Mjolnir. The Thanos tease will pay off in future issues of the comic.

On Twitter, Cates revealed his upcoming Hulk series with Ryan Ottley would feature a similar tease towards a more significant threat he will face later. When asked (in a now-deleted Tweet) whether the Hulk would hint “at a larger threat like Knull in early issues of Venom or Thanos in Thor atm?” the talented writer responded with a simple “yes.”

While previous teases for the series featured the Hulk battling against M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M., it’s not entirely clear which villain the Jade Giant could be facing off against in the future. However, one name comes to mind, as The Maker, Marvel’s evil version of Reed Richards from the Ultimate Universe, has been heavily teased in Venom as a future threat to the Marvel Universe. It would be pretty awesome to see the Hulk battle the Maker, as he would certainly make one heck of a threat for the hero.

Readers should pay special attention to the first few issues of the Hulk, as they will tease what might come next in the upcoming series. Whether it’s The Maker, a different yet familiar bad guy, or a new villain to the Marvel Universe, there’s little doubt the new Hulk series from Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley is going to be an action-packed blast. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the hero when Hulk #1 arrives in comic book stores on November 10, 2021.
