Later that day, a citizen discovered her belongings in Wensum City Park.

Her white work shirt and yellow tank top were found strewn in different places in the city center park, while her olive drab coat was found in the water.

Officers have confirmed that all the clothes she was wearing at the time were in the park, raising the possibility that she disappeared at least partially naked.

Officers declined to comment on whether her pants had been found.

Norwich Police reported her missing after they identified the items as Gaynor’s and learned she had not returned home from work that evening.

A retail assistant for Bullards Gin, at Jarrold’s was last seen leaving work at 2.45pm when she was due to finish at 4pm on Friday.

Norwich officers searched the river today but have not ruled out any possibility – including third party involvement.

The missing mother is believed to be married to a successful financial advisor.

Police divers, assisted by fire crews and the coastguard, searched the nearby River Wensum yesterday using sonar equipment to examine the water.

Officers also used drones and foot searches to look for further leads.

A police spokesman last night said the park would remain closed while officers sought further information about Gaynor’s whereabouts.

Supp Wes Hornigold said: “Gaynor had left work early and was not taking her usual route home.

“We have not been able to establish why she left early and her disappearance is out of character so we are naturally concerned for her welfare.

“There is no evidence that Gaynor was injured and although we have a number of inquiries ongoing, given where her clothing and other items were found, there is a real possibility that she entered the water.

“We have liaised with the National Crime Agency (NCA) who have advised us on specialist underwater diving teams and we are seeking assistance from the force with this capability. We hope to have resources on the ground later today or tomorrow.

“This is obviously a difficult time for her family. We have specialist officers to support them and we continue to keep them informed of our ongoing work.”

Gaynor, who has shoulder-length blonde hair in a bob, is described as white and 5ft 6in tall.

She was last seen walking along London Street in Norwich, wearing a white shirt and yellow tank top with a large olive coat over the top and a scarf.
