I bred XL Bully Kimbo who half UK’s animals can be traced to – they only become killers when people give them steroids

The breeder of the deadly American XL Bully, to which half the animals in the UK can be traced, claims many of the dogs are on steroids.

Gustavo Castro said his dog Kimbo was a “gentle giant” and had no problems with aggression with his own offspring.

His dog was named Killer Kimbo after the British BullyWatch campaign revealed that 32 out of 50 purebred dogs in Britain were related to him.

BullyWatch also says dogs linked to Kimbo, who died more than a decade ago, have sparked at least ten violent incidents around the world.

But Mr Castro, from Los Angeles, said: “Kimbo’s offspring are all over the world now and it’s getting really big to have a big dog.

“Some people when they get my dogs, they start injecting them with steroids and other things they shouldn’t, to make them big.

“All these things have side effects. You will not get a normal dog, the dog will be different.

“My dogs are naturally big. Puppies take more of their mother’s genes anyway. If mothers are aggressive, it’s not necessarily Kimbo’s fault.

“I had no problems with Kimbo’s descendants either.

“Right now I have a Kimbo grandson and a great grandson, so it’s straight forward, and my dogs are perfectly fine.

“Those descendants have other blood that we don’t know about at all.

“Kimbo has between 500 and 600 descendants across the US and the world.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the ban on the breed following the death of married father Ian Price, 52, who was mauled by two XL Bully dogs in Stonnall, Staffs, on Thursday.

He said: “The American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities, especially our children.

“It is clear that this is not a case of a handful of poorly trained dogs, it is a pattern of behavior and it cannot continue like this.”

Castro said he opposes the ban and said: “Kimbo grew up with my six daughters and they would kiss him and hug him.

“They had a very good relationship with him. He was a gentle giant and never bit anyone.”

But BullyWatch researcher Gloria Zsigmond said she was concerned about the large number linked to Kimbo because she claims he had a history of violence in his bloodline.

She said: “Most Bully breeders try to hide how inbred the dogs are.

“Kimbo bled into all those bloodlines because he was early and dominant in breeding.”

PURSUE FOR CHANGE

BREEDERS of vicious bulldogs, including XL Bully, are making models of Hollywood movie posters in a bid to sell the canines as puppies.

The graphic shows several ferocious dogs posed as if they were in an adventure movie.

One on Facebook mimics Tom Cruise’s Top Gun movies with “Top Dog”, right.

Dog expert Stan Rawlinson, who called for the XL restrictions, said they attracted “exactly the kind of dogs you don’t want to have these dogs”.

He added: “They make the dogs look really tough. We have to ban all their advertising.”
