The man was put into a coma and his legs amputated after burning his thumb on a pan.
Max Armstrong, 40, burned down while on vacation in December 2024 and “he did not think about it a lot of injury” until it was too late.

He camped from Colorado with his friends at Kiowa, in the center of the state, and tried to cook pasta only when he sustained an injury.
Describing himself as constantly “being outdoors”, Max received scratches, and before cutting, he wasn’t too stressed about the burns.
Max said, “I grabbed the pan wrong and my thumb touched my hot part, I could feel it burning as I moved it to the table, but I didn’t want to drop it.
“After dinner, I cleaned the burn, put on a bandage and left it.
“Unfortunately, dinner was enough to burn stress A.”
The owner of the Franktown company said it was a hunting trip with friends who “turned into a little nightmare”.
A few days after the injury, Max began to notice some scary symptoms.
His left leg became noticeably swollen, his nails darkened and became purple, and he was overwhelmed by intense, painful pain.
On the sixth day he was transported to the hospital and was immediately diagnosed with sepsis – a life -threatening health.
SEPSA can occur when the body’s immune system responds to infection in an extreme and harmful way – even if it is a seemingly small injury, such as burning a pan.

At the hospital, Max’s eyes started to roll upwards, and doctors at Adventhealth Parker confirmed Strep bacteria and entered into combustion, running sepsis.
“At the moment, the burns on my thumb became quite ugly, it became black and she looked like he was eating thumb,” Max continued.
“Doctors asked me a lot of questions, but my eyes started to roll in my head and I started talking nonsense.”
Due to the severity of his condition, he was put in an induced coma for six days and moved to a better equipped hospital.
His family warned that there was a chance that they might not succeed, but on their relief on December 13, he woke up from his own.
Max’s mother and his wife Megan were in the hospital that they saw him and they were delighted when he woke up.
He said, “My family was extremely happy, I could hear them cheering and then nurses came in and started cleaning me.”
Unfortunately, while in her sepsis she continued to eat in her feet and spread to her feet.
He said he remembered looking at their feet and at his horror, both were completely black.
When someone’s limbs become darker during sepsis, it can be because oxygen lacked in the area.
This can lead to the death of tissue and gangrene that, when heavy, may require amputation.
Max went out of camping with his friends to waking up at a hospital in Denver after a coma, just to tell him both legs that were supposed to remove.
The amputation happened on December 2, 2024, and it took a total of three hours.
Max added, “In the beginning when I woke up, I thought my legs were still there and then I realized they weren’t.
“I felt my leg and realized that my legs were gone, I asked a nurse and she confirmed that my legs were amputated.
“She told me my family was waiting for me and continued to remind me of them who anchored me.”
The 40-year-old spent 16 days at the Sky Ridge Sports Medicine Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital recovering and teaching how to use a disability stroller-he would now depend on the rest of his life.
He went to physical rehabilitation courses three times a day, learned the key exercises of the upper body.
“I’m in a wheelchair now, and Triceps are my rescue line,” he explained.
After withstanding a long and painful journey, Max could finally leave on January 29, 2025 and adapt to life as amputated.

Sepsa is a life -threatening reaction to an infection that occurs when your immune system reacts excessively and starts damaging your own tissue and organs of your body.
Symptoms of sepsis in adults include:
