Ian Brady Cause of Death
Brady died on 15 May 2017 at the age of 79 at Ashworth Hospital, Maghull, England from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which had affected his lungs. According to sources, he was fed through a tube after he went on hunger strike in 1999.
He allegedly removed that tube just a few days before his death. He was found to be a psychopath and had been confined to Ashworth Hospital under high security since 1985. He received end-of-life care at the hospital and was reportedly bedridden for the last two years before he died.

Brady was born on January 2, 1938 in Glasgow, Scotland. His real name was Ian Ducan Stewart. He was later adopted by his foster parents and transferred to Pollok where he was admitted to Shawlands Academy. However, he left the academy and started working as a tea boy when he was only fifteen years old.

Brady was never married, but he was in a relationship with Myra Hindley, with whom he subsequently committed several murders.
They met at their workplace in Millwards where Brady did clerical work and Hindley joined as a typist. They soon caught fire and started dating in December 1961. They visited the library together and often took pictures of each other.
Brady was previously in a relationship with a girl named Evelyn Grant, but they broke up when he allegedly threatened her with a knife. Brady had no children of his own.

Ian Brady’s Last Words
After Brady was sent to Ashworth Hospital, he never wanted to be released and asked to die. His last wish was for his ashes to be scattered over the moors of Saddleworth where he killed and buried several of his victims. However, the judge prohibited his wish. His ashes were later scattered in the Irish Sea.
Just hours before he died, he asked to hand over two locked briefcases placed around his bed to his lawyer, Robin Makin, and called for them to be opened only after his death.

Brady was born to Margaret “Peggy” Stewart (mother), his father’s name is unknown. Her mother was a waitress in a teahouse and was unmarried when she gave birth to Brady.
According to his mother, his father was a newspaper reporter in Glasgow who died three months before Brady was born. However, just a few months after his birth, Stewart Brady was adopted by a couple named Mary and John Sloan.
Her mother later married Patrick Brady, a fruit merchant, and Brady began living with them before he was 17. Then he started working as a fruit carrier.

The arrest of Ian Brady
Brady had been arrested several times before on several occasions since he was in school. But after committing five murders, Brady and his partner Hindley were finally arrested in October 1965 when their accomplice David Smith, Hindley’s brother-in-law, called the police after the pair killed their fifth and final victim. They were sentenced to life imprisonment on a life tariff.
