Ian Mcintosh Career
And chances are good that when songs like We Are The Champions and We Will Rock You are performed, her 75-year-old feet will be pounding vigorously on the stage floor.
Why? Her grandson Ian Mcintosh is the main performer on the stage. Ian confesses that they are more connected than just typical family members.
He says, “I had no idea.” “Coventry isn’t the world’s arts capital. I also planned to become an electrician when I was 16 years old. But it was advised that I visit Southend for an audition because my uncle knew someone who had attended a musical theatre school there.
It not only went well, but Ian McIntosh impressed everyone so much that he was given a full £40k scholarship. Despite this, he acknowledges that his abilities didn’t light Southend on fire.
With a wry smirk, he admits, “I was too young. “I completed two Second Years as a result. I was unable to move around the stage despite being able to sing. I had never taken acting lessons when I was younger.
“I was scheduled to perform Mandy by Barry Manilow at my graduation show. However, I was unable to sing and move around normally at the same time. I ultimately got a stool to sit on from someone.
He says with a chuckle, “I had to learn to act walking. It took some time.”
There were setbacks along the way; “When I graduated from college, I tried out for We Will Rock You to be an understudy.
But at the time, I was also suffering from a cold, and my nerves kept getting the better of me.
He nevertheless was eager to learn and work hard. In the ensemble, Ian was cast in tiny roles before serving as the backup in a few plays.
And over time, he picked up skills from actors like Killian Donnelly in The Commitments.
Because of his dedication, Ian was nominated for an Oliver Award for his performance as Barry Mann in the West End production of the Carole King musical, Beautiful.
The first action I took was to phone my mother and grandmother.
Ian’s career took off after the nomination. “It gets you in the room,” he says. “However, you must still persuade. especially when a business depends on you to take care of a part for up to a year.
