A man from Sanders Wildlife helped rescue a fox that was in a rather critical situation. Rescue teams received a Valentine’s Day call for help from a homeowner in Roswell, Georgia.
Although it was a day off, but the work of animal rescue still did not stop, the man quickly went to the yard of the host’s house and discovered a wild red fox digging its claws into the Y-shaped tree trunk.
Emergency services received a Valentine’s Day call for help from a homeowner in Roswell, Georgia. Although it was a day off, but the work of animal rescue still did not stop, the man quickly went to the yard of the host’s house and discovered a wild red fox digging its claws into the Y-shaped tree trunk.
Sanders Wildlife shared on Facebook that the fox may have gotten stuck using a tree as a rake.
In a video shared on YouTube and social media, you can see a man working hard to open the tree to get rid of the fox’s claws, but it’s a tough job. The rescue service explains on YouTube that “the tree is very strong and difficult to open”.
The man spoke softly to the fox during the rescue, and the fox seemed to realize that he was there to help.
The rescue service added that they were unable to examine the fox after it was freed, but they were hopeful it survived.
On YouTube, the rescuer shared: “Unfortunately, this fox will most likely lose the claw it caught. The good news is that 3-legged foxes can still live a productive life. Immediately after its release, #Fox jumped 5 feet onto the retaining wall.”
They added that under local law, “species that transmit rabies cannot be reinstated or relocated.” While it is possible that the fox could survive on its own in the wild on three legs, it would be immediately killed if transported to a rehabilitation center or veterinary office.
While the decision was difficult considering the pain the animal might be going through, rescuers made the best decision given the circumstances and the law.
