A reboot with a new face in the title role is “almost a done deal” with an unnamed streaming service involved.

Poldark actor Aidan Turner, Doctor Who star David Tennant and Happy Valley’s James Norton are linked.

The cameo role of Nettles, who is now 80 years old, was also discussed in the series.

A source said: “If all goes to plan, filming will take place in the summer.”

Former Jersey chief minister Kristina Moore said it would be a “huge boost for the island”.

The project is said to be awaiting £1.8m of funding from the Channel Islands Government.

Moor added: “The company is ready to go, the scripts are written, they could start shooting in the spring for broadcast in November and December this year.”

In 2021, censors labeled Bergerac racist, sexist and offensive.

TV bosses say of one episode – called Always Leave Them Laughing: “It contains outdated attitudes, racist language and humor that some viewers may find offensive.”

The program was broadcast in 1983 and deals with the alleged attempted rape of beauty pageant contestant Christina Bolton (Joanne Whalley) by top comedian Andy Galbraith (Rikki Fulton).
