Iggy Azalea Won’t Be Finishing Her 4th Album: ‘I Feel More Passionately About Design and Creative Direction’

Iggy Azalea releases her fourth album.

On Wednesday, musician “Fancy” (33) shared a lengthy post on X (formerly known as Twitter) explaining that he would not finish the project and would pursue other creative endeavors.

“I’ve always been someone who finds joy in being creative and seeing my ideas come to life. I’ve long used music to present my big crazy ideas to the world,” Azalea wrote.

“I know a lot of people have this idea that I’m ‘rejected from music’ and that’s something I’ve always laughed at because I’d never be bullied for anything! Actually, I’m too stubborn. I mean Sometimes I’ve even resisted changes in myself, purely because I don’t like to be seen as a quitter,” she continued.

Azalea then revealed that she was going to step away from music and do something else.

“I’ve known for a really long time that I’m more passionate about design and creative direction than songwriting,” she explained. “It’s not a shock for many of you to read. It shows in my work. 🥲 Haha! Kidding aside, I spend a lot more time on that part of the thing… because that’s where I’m most confident.”

She added: “So I want to let you know that I won’t be finishing my album. It was on hiatus for a few months while I was giving directions for a different project and I really just didn’t feel like getting back into it.

The rapper said she feels “really happy and passionate when she’s “focused on it”.

“I want to stick with what’s arguably the best for me,” she said of her decision, adding: “I can’t wait to start sharing some of the things I’ve had a hand in creating and I hope you’ll see my wit and humor in anything I touch. !”

The performer of “Black Widow” then apologized to the fans who were waiting for her music.

“I know this probably leaves some fans feeling a little deflated – I’m sorry to let you down,” she wrote. “But it’s more important that I don’t let myself down. I hope you understand.”

After a fan asked if she would still publish a coffee book, Azalea responded X (formerly known as Twitter) that “it’s just taking longer because I spent all that unexpected time sick and have to compile a little more before it’s done.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up to date with the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Iggy Azalea is taking a ‘few years’ from music to ‘focus on other creative projects’

After announcing that she planned to take a few years off from music to “focus on other creative projects in 2021,” Azalea announced in August 2022 that she was coming out of retirement, per Board.

“A year ago I was willing to quit music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted,” she wrote on Twitter. “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my own business, you’re going to be negative and nasty. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”
