Marvel Studios announced the launch of the “Ms. Marvel” series in August 2019. Villani conducted a Zoom audition for the lead role, with Sana Amanat highlighting her audition. She is a character developer at Marvel and co-creator of Kamala Khan’s character. In 2020, she directed two short films, “Push” and “I don’t want b alone”. In September 2020, Villani auditioned for the role of Kamala Khan, the superheroine in the Disney+ and Marvel Studio miniseries Ms. Marvel. She stars alongside Yasmin Fletcher, Mohan Kapoor, Laurel Marsden, Matt Linz, Azhar Usman, Zenobia Shroff and Sagar ·Sheikh co-starred in this miniseries. Iman, who comes from a Muslim family, plays Marvel’s first Muslim superhero in the show. Once, she said of this experience:
Growing up, I felt very disconnected from my culture and religion because I grew up in Canada. I don’t have any brown friends who aren’t from my mosque and I don’t hang out with them. I learned a lot about my ancestry while filming this show. That’s one of the special things I can share with this character, and that’s because I work with so many incredible creators who come from Muslim or Pakistani backgrounds.

In June 2022, she also appeared in “The Fan’s Guide to Ms. Marvel,” a short documentary featuring interviews with the film’s production team and Villani. On June 8, she appeared on the screen for the first time. The miniseries and Villani’s performance were well received by the audience and received numerous accolades. The miniseries was released as part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and was intended to lay the groundwork for the next film in the series, Marvel. Villani also stars in the movie “The Marvels”, which is expected to be released on July 28, 2023.

- She’s a huge Iron Man fan and can recite the first five minutes of the first Iron Man sequel.
- Throughout her bedroom, there are Marvel posters everywhere. During a Zoom call audition for Ms. Marvel, she showed her entire room to co-executive producer Sana Amanat. Amanat said in an interview,
She showed me every corner of her room, filled with Avengers. Then she said, “Oh wait, I’m not done yet” and opened her closet and there was more Marvel everywhere.
- She read the American comic Ms. Marvel as a teenager and became a huge fan of Kamal Khan’s character. After taking on the lead role in the Ms. Marvel series, she said of the incident:
She feels a lot like me, in large part not only because of her background and ethnicity, but also because she’s also a fan of the Marvel Universe.
- After graduation, she originally planned to study integrated media at the Ontario University of Art and Design, but was unable to make the trip.
