Imtiaz Ali is an Indian film director, producer and writer. He rose to fame by directing the Bollywood film Jab We Met.

Imtiaz Ali was born on 16 June 1971 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand (age 52 years 2023). Some of his early years were spent in Patna. His zodiac sign is Gemini.
Ali’s father was an employee in the water conservancy department, so he often accompanied him, which allowed him to see the inside story of India. He studied at St. Michael’s High School in Patna and DBMS English School in Jamshedpur.
During his mid-term studies, Imtiaz lived with his aunt at Crim House in Jamshedpur. There was a movie theater attached to the house, allowing him to watch movies for free. He became friends with the cinema projectionist and was often seen changing reels of film. Imtiaz’s academic performance was not very good and he did not even reach the ninth standard. However, his father encouraged him to pursue a career in the civil service. After completing his studies, he attended Hindu College of Delhi University and graduated. He even started preparing for the civil services, but his interest in films and theater led him to found the Hindu College Theater Society Ibtida. Thereafter, he moved to Delhi to pursue a filmmaking course at Xavier School of Communication. Later he even took courses in advertising and marketing.

Imtiaz Ali belongs to an Islamic family. His father, Mansoor Ali, was an employee of the irrigation department. Little is known about his mother. He has an elder brother Arif Ali who serves as a director and a younger brother Sajid Ali.
Imtiaz is married to producer Preety Ali and has a daughter named Ida Ali. The couple divorced in 2012.
Imtiaz is rumored to be dating Pakistani actress Iman Ali.
Profession
Imtiaz started his career at Crest Communications as a screenwriter, where his job was to provide scripts to TV show producers. While doing this job, he sat in front of the computer for 17 hours a day. Later, he directed shows like “Imtehaan”, “Naina” and “Kurukshetra” for Doordarshan. He then wrote the script of Socha Na Tha and when he learned that actor Sunny Deol was looking for a script to launch his cousin Abhay Deol, Ali approached him to write the script. It took him 3 years to complete the film. However, the film’s box office performance was not satisfactory.
He next directed Jab We Met, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, which was a box office success. He has since directed commercial successes such as Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Rockstar (2011).
In 2014, Imtiaz shot a film called “Highway”. The film was critically acclaimed. In fact, it was the first screenplay he ever wrote, some 20 years before it was released. Ali continued his directorial journey with films like “Tamasha” and “Jab Harry Met Sejal”.
Apart from writing and directing, he also tried his hand at playing “Yakub Memon” in the film “Black Friday”, which was based on the Mumbai blasts.
