Wiki/Biography
Indrani Ivy Roy was born on Friday, 5 September 1997 in Lilua, Howrah, West Bengal (age 25; as of 2022). She attended Sunrise (Engineering Medicine) School in Howrah, West Bengal. She pursued her Bachelor of Arts degree from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. When she was a child, she played various sports but was not particularly interested in cricket. She became interested in cricket when she was in eighth grade. One day, when she went to a tuition class, she saw a woman practicing cricket. That day she thought the coaching center was just around the corner and the next day she went there and played cricket for the first time. She loved the game so much that she started going to the center every day and started playing cricket at the age of 15. As she practiced, her learning suffered. She didn’t do well in school, so her father told her to stop playing. She has stopped playing cricket for two years but her mind has always been on the game. She had been looking for a coaching center to train women and when she found one she was afraid to tell her father so she requested coach Pachu Gopal Majhi to come to her house to facilitate her father. Her father agreed and she started training when she was in Class 10. In an interview, she said of the incident:
It was not until Mr. Panchu Gopal Majhi came to my house and convinced my parents that they allowed me to play cricket. From that day on, they gave everything they had for my cricketing career and I am happy to be able to repay them in my own way. My mother has always been a source of inspiration to me. We rarely discuss my game at home, but they have always been strong supporters of mine. I am currently practicing in Kolkata. I called my family and they were so happy for me. It looks like all the sacrifices they made for my game are finally paying off. “
When she joined the coaching centre, she regularly played with boys competing in state and Class A competitions, which helped her improve her game.
