Los Angeles-based influencer, Dr. Cara Hodgson, was rushed to the ER after being electrocuted in Thailand
Influencer and orthodontist Dr. Cara Hodgson is recovering from a “freak accident” after being electrocuted while on vacation in Thailand.
Hodgson said she had been through the “10 worst days of her life” and was “happy to be alive” as she shared the terrifying news in a post on Monday.
“In the blink of an eye, everything could be taken away. Happy to be here, 2024,” the Los Angeles-based influencer wrote in the caption. “Life is so precious. One second you have it, and the next it can be taken away.”
“I had a freak accident on my trip and I got hit by power lines, so I passed out and I was rushed to the emergency room in Thailand,” explained Hodgson. “It was the worst 10 days of my life – I was in and out of hospitals fighting to regain my strength and fighting for my life. I am so happy to be here today.”

Alongside the message, Hodgson posted photos of herself lying in a hospital bed and a diary entry she wrote as she tracked her recovery progress as she said she visited four hospitals.
“Today is the first day I’ve been able to eat and sit up in bed,” Hodsgon wrote in the post. “So far I have been to 4 hospitals. I am strong. I’ll get through this. I have to. I still have so much life to live… I refuse to let this take me away from this beautiful world. I will keep fighting. I will not let this unfortunate freak accident take anything away from me.”
Hodgson also posted clips of when she was back home, snuggling on the couch with her husband and dog in front of a table full of flowers and cards and ‘Get well soon’ balloons.
The orthodontist returned home after spending several days in the hospital.

She thanked those who offered “endless support” in the caption, adding: “Every text and message, even when I was too weak to respond, made a huge difference to keep me fighting when I was losing hope.”
“2023, you taught me something we all need to remind ourselves of when we get caught up in the small things: what a precious privilege it is to be alive — to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love,” Hodsgosn continued. “Just being alive, being able to breathe, eat, speak, move your body, is something big and something to be celebrated. ✨🫶🏽#hny2024 #gratitude #lifelessons #healthiswealth.”
Before the accident, Hodgson posted several clips of her trip to Thailand, joined by her husband. She posted a video on a plane flying to her destination on December 16.

Hodgson discussed her recovery in more detail on her Instagram Story, writing: “I’m sorry I’ve been MIA for the last 12 days. I still don’t have much energy to write it all out, but I just posted why I was gone. In short, I’m so happy what I’m here and what I can expect in 2024. Never take it for granted. I love you all.”
“I’m still not out of the woods – I’ve got a lot of upcoming doctor appointments, big lifestyle changes, I need to get my strength back, I need to gain weight and I need a lot of help to recover from PTSD from all of that,” Hodgson continued. “Still there are unanswered questions, but I’m so grateful to be here.”
