Kevin Smith and his wife Jennifer Schwalbach Smith had a daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, while they were still in their twenties. In 1995, the actor/director was in a relationship with Joey Lauren Adams. Their romance lasted two years, and they divorced in 1997. Kevin started dating Jennifer two years after divorcing his ex-wife. He didn’t want another big thing to fail, so the two agreed to marry in 1999, just three months into their relationship. Soon after, the couple gave birth to their first child.

Although it wasn’t love at first sight for Kevin and his wife Jennifer, they have a great story about how they met. After the informal practice, Kevin told Chris Rock that he had an interview scheduled with a reporter from USA Today, which he thought was “weird” because it would take place in his hotel room (according to Nicki Swift). Chris replied by joking: “It’s better here than the bar downstairs. Full of whores!” Kevin assumed that Rock sent the whore to his room as soon as Jennifer arrived. He reasoned this way because he didn’t expect to be questioned by a lovely young lady like Jennifer. “Everybody I ever interviewed for USA Today was in their late 40s,” he continued.

Kevin strongly supported his daughter’s Hollywood career, casting her as the lead in Yoga Hosers and Milly in the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. They are reportedly collaborating on a TV project after previously co-hosting the Vegan Abattoir podcast. Harley’s most notable role to date was Mallory Higgins, a high school student living in the 1990s, in Cruel Summer. After the abysmal end to Season 1, the Freeform series set a significant milestone as the biggest premiere on multiple platforms and was renewed for a second season.

In January 2022, father and daughter ran into each other at a nearby marijuana store. “When you’re at a weed shop and you run into your kid,” Kevin, 51, captioned his photo on Instagram. “Somebody raised that kid right,” Kevin quipped on the post, to which Harley sarcastically responded in the comments, “It was a surprise, but also not at all.” He described working with his father Harley as “a great gift”. She said they thought the same way, implying that she was filming with another version of herself. Kevin accepted, saying he enjoyed working with his daughter and saw it as an opportunity to play with her again. “I believed those days were long gone,” Kevin expressed gratitude.
