Inside posh street where Man Utd & Liverpool aces are neighbours – but furious locals say mega mansions RUIN the area

A POSH street has been dubbed ‘football row’ because it has become home to so many rival Premier League stars – but locals say their mansions are ruining the area.

The average price of a property on the most sought-after road in Wilmslow, Cheshire, is £4m, and estate agents describe it as one of the “most sought-after” and “desirable” roads in the town.

The gated villas offer peace and privacy, and current residents include Andy Robertson from Liverpool and his team-mate Alexis Mac Allister, who recently bought the house.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson once lived there, as did former United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

And Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is also thought to own a property on the road.

Wilmslow is part of Cheshire’s ‘Golden Triangle’, a rich area of small towns and villages that also includes Alderley Edge and Prestbury.

Set in glorious countryside, the area is, according to one estate agent, “a wonderful blend of sophistication and rural tranquillity” and boasts high-end shops and classy bars and restaurants.

Visitors to Wilmslow might spot Marcus Rashford shopping for jewellery, his Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes leaving the tanning salon or Manchester City star Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner hitting the gym.

But some residents admit it can feel like “living in a bubble” with so many stars hanging around.

One woman, who lives near the luxury road, said: “I know it’s a popular road with footballers.

“Some call it a ‘footballer’s wedding’ or a ‘millionaire’s wedding’.

“I don’t mind footballers living so close, but I don’t like it when they buy somewhere only to knock it down and build a bigger home.”

“I think it spoils the character of the area.

“My son went to the same kindergarten as Kai Rooney [Wayne Rooney’s son].

“Some of the other Manchester United player’s kids went there too.

“I would see the children of Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick, as well as Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy.

“It was the most surreal experience to go to children’s birthday parties and see them there.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said she had even attended soft play events when some Wags left “wearing a blouse and high heels”.

She added: “I’ve lived here for 15 years and I love it.

“But I am aware that I live in a small bubble.

“I saw a lot of women with big hair and nails outside restaurants in Wilmslow during the day and I thought, ‘Why aren’t these people working?

“It’s not a typical town.”

Our streets are lined with £1.2 MILLION supercars driven by Premier League stars and celebrities

RESIDENTS of a posh village say their high street is packed with so many expensive supercars it looks like a car showroom.

Alderley Edge is part of Cheshire’s ‘Golden Triangle’ – a rich area of small towns and villages that also includes Wilmslow and Prestbury.

Luxury vehicles such as the Ferrari F40 – at around £1.2 million – are a common sight in Alderley.

Set in magnificent countryside, the area is known for its expensive houses, luxury shops and classy bars and restaurants.

Popular with wealthy Premier League footballers and celebrities, it has gained a reputation as a playground for millions and a place to see and be seen.

London Road, which runs through the center of Alderley Edge, is often lined with million-pound Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bugattis, as well as luxury 4X4s and other cars.

According to property website Rightmove, properties in the footballer’s haven had an overall average price of £3,900,0000 over the past year – up 144% on the previous year and up 30% on the 2006 peak of £3,000,000.

Tony Goldsmith, 61, who has lived nearby for 33 years, accepts the town has become an expensive place to live, partly because footballers have driven up property prices.

“But they have to live somewhere,” he said.

“So it’s not really a problem for me.

“I think Wilmslow has always been an expensive place.”

Tony recalled the time when former Manchester United player Park Ji-sung had just signed for the club and was invited to meet Sir Alex Ferguson at his home.

“He knocked on my door with this letter in his hand,” he said.

“It was an invitation to meet Fergie at his house but he didn’t know how to get there.

“So in the end I took him there myself.

“Sir Alex doesn’t live on the road now, but I used to see him a lot.”

Besides its luxury homes, Wilmslow has other attractions.

The Symposium nightclub has become a celebrity spot and is where Wayne Rooney partied in September 2017 before he was arrested for drink driving while driving a woman he was “kissing and fondling” home in her car.

Swish restaurant Cibo is another celebrity spot, and there are many other fine dining spots as well as designer boutiques, jewelry stores and high-end furniture and interior stores.

No wonder many footballers now call it home.
