A Spy Among Friends premiered on ITVX earlier this year, but for those who may have missed it the first time around, it will air Sunday nights on ITV1.
The historical drama boasts an impressive cast and an interesting storyline that will keep viewers hooked. Nation And Billion actor Damian Lewis stars as Nicholas Elliot opposite lead actor Guy Pearce (secret LA) as Kim Philby.

Is spying between friends based on a true story?
In short, yes. However, as with many TV series adaptations of the true story, some passages have been altered or altered for the sake of the script.
The ITV drama synopsis provides a glimpse of what will happen in the six episodes. It read: “Philby is the most notorious British deserter and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of intimate overlap; of loyalty, trust and betrayal. The film focuses on Nicholas Elliot and Kim Philby. The two were British spies and best friends for many years, but when Philby’s true identity is revealed, things go wrong between them.
In 1963, Philby, an intelligence officer, revealed his secret when it was revealed that he was a member of the Cambridge Five spy organization: a group of Soviet spies who leaked sensitive intelligence and British top secret to the Soviet Union for many years.

However, Elliot is an MI6 officer, who has a lifelong friendship with Elliot when the secret is revealed. After suspicions begin to arise in MI6, Elliot is tasked with securing Philby’s confession. After being exposed, Philby fled to the Soviet Union, where he remained until his death 25 years later.

Who else is starring in Spy Among Friends?

Nation And online service Actress Anna Maxwell Martin takes on the role of Lily Thomas, MI5’s chief reporting officer. Lily finishes interviewing Elliot after Philby’s identity is revealed.
