Marketed as a way to compliment friends, Gas promotes positive self-esteem by allowing users to create uplifting polls about their classmates or friends. Despite the explosion in popularity and availability across the US, Gas is not yet available on Android. According to Gas’s FAQ, there is no release date on this platform. However, as Gas grows in popularity, an Android app can be expected. It’s not uncommon for an app to start off specific to one platform and then move on to another. Developing apps for different platforms takes time and money, and not every developer has the resources to release cross-platform apps. Since Gas’s target audience is high school students, it makes sense to release an Android app so that more teenagers can use it.
Can people without the Gas App be listed in the poll?
Some people who can’t download Gas because they don’t have compatible devices may wonder if they can appear in the polls. The answer is – sometimes. According to the app’s FAQ, users who have just signed up but don’t have at least four friends on their account will be able to create polls by selecting their contacts. The app doesn’t message the user’s contacts but adds their name as a placeholder. Gas said that to remove their contact preferences in the poll, users will have to add more friends. This means that anyone who is not in the app can still be added to the poll, however, they will never be notified.
Currently, Gas is only available in high schools in the US and Canada. Users are encouraged to only enroll in the high school they are attending, but if an error occurs, the app allows users to change their high school, grade, or name once. This is to encourage authenticity and prevent fake accounts. Gas can also delete user profiles if they discover that most of their friends don’t go to the same school, so users need to make sure they’ve entered their details correctly.
Is the Gas App anonymous?
Since the Gas app only allows users to create polls and doesn’t support messaging like Snapchat and Instagram, users may worry about their identities being leaked on the platform, especially if they are Vote for the one you like. The good news is that Gas is largely anonymous. Gas said it will only reveal the gender and ranking of those who voted for someone in the polls. However, there is a way to unlock a person’s identity.
Gas has a paid feature called God Mode, which allows users to access features like unlimited suggestions, which display the initials of people who voted for them in polls. Users can also unlock two rewards screens that show the names of people who voted for them twice in the polls. In-app purchases for God Mode cost between $1.99 and $9.99, which Gas said is intended to encourage anonymity.
