Hydeia Broadbent was born with HIV, and her mother abandoned her in a Las Vegas hospital in 1984. She was diagnosed with AIDS at the age of 3. According to the doctors, he was not expected to survive the fifth year. That’s why she grew up and had a real wedding before she died.
But Hydeia grew up and lived to the age of 39. By the time she was 29, she had become one of the most recognizable activists against HIV/AIDS in the world. She also appeared on a Nickelodeon special with professional basketball player Magic Johnson and a number of children living with HIV/AIDS.
At the age of 7, Hyedia told Magic about her desire for people with AIDS. She said,
“I want people to know that we’re just normal people.”
Hydia Broadbent completed her bachelor’s degree in communications from the College of Southern Nevada while maintaining healthy romantic relationships.

Hydeia Broadbent was predicted to live up to 5 years as she was diagnosed with HIV and AIDS. So she wanted to get married before she died and married one of her best friends Tyler Small at the age of 9. Her husband, Tyler Small, also had AIDS.
Hyedia Broadbent’s adoptive family and supporters held a Friends for Life ceremony for Hyedia and her friend Tyler Small. The ceremony was held in a white wedding dress.
Hydeia Broadbent had no children of her own. She never gave birth to any child in her life.
Hydeia Broadbent was part of America’s first generation of children born with HIV in the late 1980s. She died at the age of 39 on February 20, 2024. Her father, Loren Broadbent, announced her death on Facebook Wednesday morning, but did not give a cause of death.
