When their investigation exceeds the paths with sadistic serial killers in Florida, they must race against the clock to find it before it is too late. Although not based on a true story, the murder committed by the fictional truck driver Peter Hillborough (Lukas Haas) inspired real events.
Emile Hirsch, who plays a law agent in Florida byron Crawford in Midnight in the switchAMFM Magazine told screenwriter Alan Horsnail intentionally never appointed real life cases on which the film based. But they are creepy similar to those related to the killer to stop a truck in Texas, Robert Benjamin Rhoades.

Midnight in the switch is a criminal thriller accompanying FBI agents Rebecca Lombardo (Fox) and Karl Helter (Willis), who have drawn into an investigation involving a number of missing and killed women from the small town of Florida. Although his bosses are not convinced, local police officer Crawford (Hirsch) considers it to be the work of a serial killer.
After Helter left the case because of Lombard’s risky investigative methods, she joins Crawford to find a killer who recently abducted a teenager named Tracey Lee (Caitlin Carmichael). The roles become even bigger when Lombardo – who often under the secret concealment of goals – has been abducted by the killer, revealed that the trucker is named Peter Hillborough (Haas).
While making the movie, Fox met his future MGK partner, who acting as a pimp named Calvin. Said the musician on The Drew Barrymore show 2021 only took the role to meet Fox.

After Hillborough drugged him, Lombardo finds herself around in his shed with Lee, from which she helps to escape. When the serial killer returns, he examines and tries to hang the FBI agent – but fails to see her hidden knife, which she uses for a sting while she is choking.
Crawford has finally composed the identity of the killer and, thanks to the useful advice of daughter Hillboroug who saw Lee running through their yard, finds Lombard in Supa. He later woke up at the hospital where Helter praises her for her courage.

Hirsch told the AMFM Magazine that the film’s screenwriter, Horsnail, intentionally decided not to appoint a particular case as inspiration for Midnight in the switchwithdrawn from a “two or three real -life serial killer.”
“[Horsnail] He never actually called the real life cases of which he based it, “Hirsch told the socket.” He wanted to take from real events, but still to make his own separate narrative. Which I think was wise, because as soon as you do something that is a completely true story, then there is some pressure to correct it or to stay accurate. ”
Line of the film, “based on the true story of the Texas ‘most dangerous serial killer,” may indicate the influence of Robert Benjamin Rhoades, however, which was known as Texas’ Truck Stop Killer.
Who is Robert Benjamin Rhoades?

Robert Benjamin Rhoades is a convicted killer known as a truck killer. Was arrested in April 1990. After the Arizona state soldier noticed that his tractor trailer had a blinking light. The police officer found Rhoades in a cabin with a woman related to a wall, and was charged with a difficult attack, a sexual attack and an illegal prison, by Telegraph.
After his arrest, investigators linked Rhoades with three murders. In February 1990, he made it difficult for 14-year-old Regina Walters to Illinois, which was a hitchhiker in Mexico with his 18-year-old boyfriend Ricky Lee Jones.
Her body was discovered after Rhoades was in custody, and he was sentenced to a life prison for her murder. It is unclear what happened to Jones, but investigators in 1992 said that the remains of a man shot in the head may have been Walters’s boyfriend, Marshall News Messenger.
In 2012, the killer declared himself guilty of two points of capital murder in Texas for the murder of Douglas Scott Zyskowski in 1990, Patricia Walsh, who drove from Seattle to Georgia, Per ABC News. Both bodies were not identified only years later.
How many people killed Robert Benjamin Rhoades?
Although Rhoades was convicted only for three murders, the authorities believe that he is responsible for more. Vanessa Veselka wrote about Rhoades for Gq In 2012, she claimed that the killer had almost abducted her after accepting the ride from him in 1985. She wrote that he must have looked fine or that she would not go into the truck – but once she did, “he changed.”
“He stopped answering my questions,” Veselka wrote. “His bed moved. He became higher in his seat, and the muscles of the face are relaxed to something both arrogant and empty.”
She continued, “A few minutes later he pulled the truck to the shoulder of the road, pulled out a hunting knife and told me to enter the back of the cabin … and then said one word: Run. Without looking back, I ran into the woods and hid.
Veselka said she never went to the police and that she had not told anyone about her encounter with Rhoades for years.
What is the initiative for a serial homicide on the highway?

2001., Midnight in the switch Actress Carmichael said Commingsion that the FBI’s initiative for the serial homicide on the highway was “Frame” for the movie. The government organization launched the 2009 initiative after noticing the pattern of women who were killed and rejected along the interstate corridor 40 in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi.
“I was really interested in reading about the actual initiatives for the serial homicide on the highway launched by the FBI and saw the frames on which our story was based,” Carmichael said in Outlet. “He has definitely given me a new perspective on research and preparation for this role, as opposed to only researching similar abductions or abductions for my character.”
In his book 2024 Long path: Hunting Highway Hunting HighwayFormer Assistant Director of FBI Frank Figliuzzi claimed that of the 850 killings that took place on highways in the United States since 1980, about 200 of which are still unresolved.
