Manu Toigo was bitten by a mosquito while filming an episode of Naked and A Fear in 2013. In a 2013 interview with TMZ, she said that she didn’t think much of the bite at the time, but returned. Los Angeles, she started experiencing headaches and nosebleeds.
Toigo’s condition got worse and she couldn’t do it alone anymore. Her relatives rushed her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with Dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Naked and scared alum spent two weeks in the hospital before being discharged. Despite her near-death experience, she said she wouldn’t change a thing. “It was the most epic experience I’ve ever had,” she said.

She refused to share her body warmth with her companion Adam. Ohl had reached stage two, or moderate hypothermia, by the time he called for help and she couldn’t feel her extremities. As reported by Yahoo in 2017, a paramedic at the scene was concerned that Ohl’s organs would be damaged. Fortunately, he was able to take her to the hospital in time.
Ohl was rehabilitated with no lasting consequences. “My kids will see, you know, mom did it,” she said during her recovery. She added that the last part was too much for her body. She gets excited as she high fives with Adam and tells him, “We made it.”

Do ‘Nude and Scared’ Contestants Get Paid?
It has long been debated whether contestants on Naked and Scared get paid. According to the official description of the program, the only rewards are their pride and sense of accomplishment. Former members of the cast also said in interviews that they came to the film to experience and prove to themselves that they are capable of surviving in the wild.
In a 2015 interview with Channel Guide, Kristi Russell, the show’s casting director, was asked if there was a reward for those who completed the challenge. “No reward,” she declared firmly.
How are participants paid?
Russell mentioned that while there is no bounty, candidates are compensated for their time. According to her, they will make up for the missing salary with monthly allowances.
They will also receive round-trip airfare to the survival challenge site. Under the rules of Naked and A Fear, published in 2014, candidates will also receive $5,000 in cash.
Given that the physical and mental health of candidates is also at stake, the network only selects challengers who are physically ready for the challenge of survival.
