‘It’s the end of the world’ cry devastated shoppers as Nestle discontinues TWO chocolate biscuit bars after 50 years

SHOPPERS were left devastated after Nestlé announced it was removing two chocolate bars from its shelves.

The Breakaway bar, first introduced in 1970, will no longer be produced as of March.

Nestlé said fans will still be able to purchase the bar from retailers throughout February and March while supplies last.

Meanwhile, Yorkie Bars, not to be confused with Yorkie Bars, have already been discontinued.

Fans were left devastated by the news that the two chocolates would be gone forever, just months after the chocolate company pulled Caramac bars from its shelves.

One said: “First it was Caramac and now Breakaway bars!

“Nestle is phasing my chocolate childhood off the supermarket shelves.”

Another said: “It’s the end of the world. What do we do now?”

A third added: “First the Caramac and now the Yorkie and Breakaway chocolate bars are being dealt with. When will this slaughter of chocolate classics end?”

The Breakaway bar, a biscuit made from wholemeal, oat and coconut flour, wrapped in milk chocolate, was first launched in 1970 by Rowntree Mackintosh.

Nestlé took over the production of the bar in 1988, making it a firm favorite among customers.

But the chocolatier said falling sales meant it was forced to scrap the chocolate treat.

He added that he will still introduce new products to the market, including the new Blue Riband Hazelnut which will be available in supermarkets from this month.

Customers can also get the newly launched Kitkat Chunky White Lotus and Aero Hazelnut from this month.

A spokeswoman said: “We know fans will be disappointed to see it go, but it’s time to say goodbye to Breakaway.

“We have seen sales of Breakaway decline over the past few years and, unfortunately, we have had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.

“By saying goodbye to Breakaway, we can focus on our most successful brands as well as develop exciting new innovations to delight consumers’ palates.”

It comes after Nestlé announced in November that it was discontinuing the Caramac bar, with fans calling it a “parody”.

The chocolatier said it had made a “difficult decision” following low sales.

A month later, The Sun revealed it had discontinued Drifter bars after they were first launched in the 1980s.

Fans stormed out, begging Nestlé to bring back the bar.

One said: “Nestle, do us all a favor and bring back Drifter so people can have a cup of tea with Drifter… these need to be brought back.

“There is no biscuit/chocolate that compares to the delight of caramel wafers!”

Another wrote: “Can you please bring back the best chocolate bar you’ve ever made – Drifter.”

Meanwhile, Cadbury has quietly discontinued its popular Dairy Milk bar with 30% less sugar in 2023, leaving fans in shock.
