It’s time for a change…

OVER the last five decades we have supported both the Labor and Conservative parties.

Our determination has always been to hold the Government to the fire.

What tomorrow’s Sun cover will look like

And that is what we will do every day of the next Parliament.

Everything is at stake for our country in these elections.

Common sense values are what The Sun believes in.

Britain as a meritocracy where people, regardless of origin, can progress in life through hard work.

Freedom of speech, free press and freedom for our journalists to expose hypocrisy and wrongdoing.

Free trade. Freedom for companies to grow and create jobs, and for consumers to buy what they want.

Strong borders for controlled immigration. Decent public services that provide taxpayers with excellent education and medical care.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has many policies that we support.

Rwanda plans to stop small boats. His commitment to scrapping National Insurance tax for jobs.

Prohibition of teaching harmful gender ideology in schools. Stop the headlong rush towards Net Zero. His longstanding and principled commitment to our freedoms after Brexit.

He did his best to fix the economic mess he inherited, much of it caused by the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

Inflation was 11 percent when he became prime minister. He lowered it to 2 percent—partly because he resisted wild union wage demands.

But the insurmountable problem facing the Tories is that – over 14 often chaotic years – they have become a divided mob, more interested in fighting themselves than running the country.

By the time Rishi Sunak came in at number 10, Britain had five prime ministers in just 12 years. In 2022 alone, there were four ministers of the interior, four chancellors and five ministers of education.

All this upheaval, backstabbing and mayhem came at a price.

The Tories have allowed the “taint” of the work-from-home civil service, activist quangos and human rights lawyers and judges to run circles around them, thwarting sensible policy. Illegal and legal immigration were not kept under control.

Taxes have risen to their highest level since World War II. The conspiracy against the leadership was endless. Insidious scandals – most recently gambling on the timing of elections – have shattered public confidence.

To put it bluntly, the Tories are exhausted.

They need a period in opposition to unite around a common set of principles that can finally end all the years of internal war.

It’s time for a change.

Nigel Farage’s manifesto – lower taxes, less immigration, reducing the size of a bloated state – struck a chord with millions, including many of the hard-working voters who backed Boris Johnson in 2019.

But Reforma is a one-man gang that can win only a few MPs at best and can never implement its policies.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats are a joke – with a leader who has spent this most depressing campaign pulling ridiculous stunts.

Which means it’s time for Labour.

There is no doubt that Sir Keir Starmer has fought hard to change his party for the better, even if it is still a work in progress.

The anti-Semitism that was rife under Jeremy Corbyn has largely disappeared and Sir Keir has distanced himself from the crazy Marxist Corbynist policies and MPs.

Sir Keir has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine and also of Israel – despite coming under considerable pressure from left-wing Labor MPs who were quick to forget the October 7 atrocity by the terrorist organization Hamas.

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves successfully worked hard to win the support of business. They insist that they will govern as moderates, whose fundamental ambition is to turbo-charge economic growth. The sun supports it.

Labor strongly supports the Union and strengthens the ties that bind our United Kingdom together.

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting is promising a radical reinvention to put patients first, not management staff, in the NHS. The leadership promises to ignore the concerns of NIMBYs in order to force the building of millions of new homes and the infrastructure we need.

There are still plenty of concerns about Labour.

They have no clear plan to control immigration, legal or illegal.

They have ruled out increases in VAT, income tax and national insurance – but, as independent think tanks agree, taxes on labor are rising. They just haven’t admitted which yet.

Sir Keir, a former Remainer, is now talking about wanting closer ties with Brussels – which could mean sacrificing some of our new-found Brexit freedoms.

He has a mountain to climb, with a disillusioned electorate and low approval ratings.

But by pulling his party back into the center of British politics for the first time since Tony Blair was in 10th place, Sir Keir won the right to take power.

We will hold Labor to account, without fear or favour.
