ITV viewers slam ‘woke’ New Year’s Eve Big Bash show as they fume over ‘rich’ celebs ‘lecturing’ them

ITV viewers criticized the channel for airing ‘woke’ messages from celebrities during the National Lottery’s big New Year celebrations.

The two-hour extravaganza was headlined by Jason Manford and Alesha Dixon, with performances by Becky Hill and Busted.

But some people who tuned in weren’t happy about a special that aired during the seasonal show, in which various celebrities spoke about the dangers of climate change.

The two-minute clip showed famous faces from Idris Elba and Olivia Colman to Hollywood actress Glenn Close speaking about the need for urgent action to save our planet.

However, many viewers were not impressed, claiming that New Year’s Eve is not the time to ‘wake up’ with messages, nor for ‘lectures’ by rich stars.

“Come on, filthy rich lecturing the plebs about climate change,” one viewer fumed.

“Another wake-fest,” said another.

“Speaking of the environment…who cares about NYE,” shrugged a third.

“It’s Global Warming Time!!” grumbled the fourth.

“Oh, fuck off with your climate change preaching,” agreed a fifth. “It’s a new new morning. Have a day off.”

The broadcast was recorded earlier this month at the Ovo Arena in Wembley, London.

Take That, Paloma Faith and Jax Jones also performed in the two-hour broadcast.

There was also a nod to The Masked Singer as the mystery celebrity came out in a hedgehog costume to perform.

A celebrity panel including comedian Rosie Jones, Olympian Greg Rutherford and It Takes Two presenter Fleur East had to guess the identity.

Guesses ranged from Ed Sheeran to Ben Affleck, but unfortunately none were correct – it was Busted’s Matt Willis who was eventually unmasked.

However, Matt will not appear on the main Masked Singer show as this was just an extra treat for Big Bash viewers.

The show also highlighted people who have made a positive impact on their community thanks to National Lottery funding.
