ITV’s Benidorm co-stars reveal engagement six years after meeting on set

Huge congratulations are in order for Benidorm co-stars Laila Zaida and Adam Gillen, who have announced their engagement six years after meeting on the set of the hit ITV series.

The couple first met and fell in love in 2018 while starring as Liam and Cyd in the series. Although the couple starred in the last season of the show before it was cancelled, their relationship has certainly stood the test of time, with Adam popping the question while on holiday in Croatia.

Sharing a series of snaps celebrating the happy news on Instagram, Laila wrote: “All week to be a diiiirty flirttttyyy thirty year old FELIGIOUS !!!!!!” Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel was among the people to congratulate the couple, writing: “Awwwww congratulations!!!” Actor George Weightman added: “Spectacular news! Congratulations you talented people! I need not get my hopes up – I know you will be so happy together.”

The couple celebrated their sixth anniversary in May and Laila shared a selfie of the two, writing: “One two three four five six years babyyyyyyyyyyyyy.”

In the series, Adam played resort worker-turned-hairdresser Liam Conroy, while Laila played Rob Dawson’s fiancee. Adam has had a lot of time away from the show and has acted in Vito and Virginia as well as plays at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater including Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and Henry VIII in Henry VIII. Meanwhile, Laila has since starred in Holby City and Ackley Bridge.

Benidorm has ended after ten seasons, and show star Siobhan Finneran told The Sun: “The cast and creatives met at a comedy convention for the show back in the summer and some talk of a possible TV revival came out of that. But unfortunately that’s all it was, a rumor. You should probably never say never to something that popular, but as far as I know, it’s not coming back anytime soon.”

Series creator Derren Listen confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “Yes folks it’s true after months of speculation I can finally confirm that Benidorm series 10 is the LAST TV SERIES EVER @BenidormTVshow.”
