Jackie Kennedy News

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis got a Valentine’s card from her ex-boyfriend, architect Jack Warnecke, in the latter months of her life. He told her that the former first lady was frequently on his mind.

Jackie died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma on May 19, 1994, at the age of 64, according to a new biography by J. Randy Taraborrelli titled Jackie: Public, Private, Secret, which was exclusively excerpted in this week’s issue. The note reportedly caused a reunion at her apartment few months before to her passing.

Jackie had fallen in love with the architect who created the President John F. Kennedy memorial grave site at Arlington National Cemetery three decades previously.

Years later, Warnecke told Taraborrelli about his memories, but with one restriction. Warnecke requested that everything be kept a secret until ten years after his passing out of loyalty to the renown privacy Jackie. When he was 91, he passed away in 2010.

These insights are now only a few of the numerous eye-opening details revealed in Taraborrelli’s new biography. According to him, “So many Jackie books are about the glitz and the famous. I wished to discuss the human side in my writing.

As John Warnecke made his way to 1040 Fifth Avenue to see Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, it was already dark outside. The flat was silent and in the dark. “Jack” or John Warnecke observed a telescope in the corner. Jackie once admitted to looking into it frequently to observe how the other half lived. One of the rooms’ light was visible to him. She was sitting near to the fireplace, dressed in white silk pyjamas over a pink chenille jumper. While either of them were still alive, Jackie urged Jack to keep what was going to happen a secret from everyone.

As I took my seat, Jackie handed me a stack of envelopes that were neatly tied together with yarn, Jack recalled in [our] 1998 interview. That night, I was there as part of a ritual. She was asking a dependable friend or family member to her home each night of that week to participate in it.

Untying the yarn, Jackie selected a letter from the stack. Before throwing it into the flames, she read it. There were letters from John and Caroline, Jackie’s children, he recalled. Additionally, there were letters from myself, Jack Bouvier, Aristotle Onassis, her father, Jack Bouvier, and Jack Kennedy. She held up one of the pictures and regarded it intently. On the day of his inauguration, Jack [Kennedy] and she were together.
