Jackie Walorski Passed Away At The Age Of 58 In A Car Accident

Jackie Walorski (58), a Republican representative for the state of Indiana, died on Wednesday in a car accident, along with two members of her team. Jackie Walorski and her colleagues were riding in an SUV when they collided with another car at 12:30 p.m., reports CBS. Walorski died with Communications Director Emma Thomson, 28, and District Manager Zachary Potts, 27. The driver of the other car also died on the spot.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy addressed Walorski’s untimely death in an official statement.

He stated:

“The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office told Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon.”

He continued:

“She came home to live with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Please keep her family in your prayers and thoughts. We will not be making any other comments at this time.”

The crash is now under investigation by the Eckhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Jackie Walorski entered politics in 2004 after four years as a television reporter for WSBT-TV and running a Christian charity in Romania. Upon her return to the United States, she ran for the Indiana House of Representatives, eventually winning a seat and beginning a long career with the Republicans. Walorski was known for passing laws mandating voter ID checks during elections and anti-identity theft laws during her term as a member of parliament. She was also one of several Republicans who voted against impeaching Donald Trump in 2021.

In an online tweet, Indiana Sen. Todd Young expressed his condolences for Walorski’s death.

He stated:

“She has served Indiana in the statehouse and in Congress for more than two decades with integrity and conviction and will be greatly missed.”

Walorski’s last race, according to NPR, was in 2022, when she won the Republican primary in the 2nd Congressional District. Former Vice President Mike Pence paid tribute to Walorski in a statement.

In an official statement, President Joe Biden hailed her as a determined political worker, adding that he recognizes this even though he is a Democrat.
