Jada Pinkett Smith Says She Was ‘Hurt’ by Chris Rock’s Netflix Special: ‘I Remember My Heart Piercing’

Jada Pinkett Smith reveals how she felt when she was made fun of in Chris Rock’s Netflix comedy.

The Queen Cleopatra the actress, 52, revealed in a new interview with The New York Times on the eve of the publication of his memoirs Worthyof October 17, that she was hurt by what Rock, 58, said in Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.

“I remember my heart being pierced, my heart breaking and I remember my feelings being so hurt,” Jada told the news outlet.

“And then I remember that I could have smiled and wished him well at the same time,” she continued.

In the special, Rock addressed the incident when Will Smith punched him on stage at last year’s Oscars after he joked about Jada’s shaved head. He also joked about entanglements, talking about the headline-grabbing “entanglement” drama Will, 55, had with his wife during Talk about the red table the episode they did together, in which she admitted that she was in a relationship with the singer August Aslin.

In Jada’s soon-to-be-published autobiography, she reveals that Rock once asked her out amid rumors that she and Will were breaking up.

“I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting divorced. And this summer, Chris, he thought we were going to divorce. So he called me and basically said, ‘I’d like to take you out.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will going to get a divorce?’ I said, ‘No. Chris, it’s just a rumour.’ ” she previously explained the situation to PEOPLE.

“He was terrified,” Jada added. “And he apologized profusely and that was it.”

The Run it star also told PEOPLE that after Will slapped Rock onstage at the Oscars, Rock tried to apologize during a break in the broadcast.

Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me, she recalled. “He said: ‘I meant you no harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is someone old with…’. ”

“I’ll have to leave it up to Will and Chris to talk about it, but they certainly got theirs,” Jada added.

Jada’s book Worthy comes with a number of revelations, including that she and Will have been separated for seven years.

In an interview with Hoda Kotb for an upcoming NBC News primetime special, Jada confirmed that it wasn’t a “divorce on paper,” as Kotb, 59, put it, but “by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted trying. ”

“I think we both of them are somehow still stuck in our imagination of what we thought the other person should be,” she told a television reporter.

The actress also said she “promised there would never be a reason for us to divorce,” explaining, “We’ll work on… anything.”
