Jagjit Singh is an Indian ghazal singer, composer and music director. He is popularly known as the “King of Ghazal” or “King of Ghazal”.

Jagjit Singh was born on Saturday, February 8, 1941 in Sri Ganga Nagar, Bikaner (now Sri Ganga Nagar, Rajasthan) as Jagjit Jagmohan Singh Dhiman (died aged 70). His zodiac sign is Aquarius.

He attended Khalsa High School and Government College in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. He holds a degree in Arts from DAV College, Jalandhar and a postgraduate degree in History from Kurukshetra University, Haryana. He initially learned music from Pandit Chaganlal Sharma, a visually impaired Indian classical music master, and later from Ustad Jamaal Khan of Senia Gharana. They trained him in various famous Indian classical music styles including Khayal, Dhrupad, Thumri, etc.

Profession
He started his career with singing and composition assignments at All India Radio (AIR) Jalandhar. AIR classified him as a B-list artist and allowed him to sing six musical numbers for a small fee. He then moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) and started singing jingles for commercials. In 1976, he released his first album “The Unforgettable” with his wife Chitra Singh.
Between 1965 and 1973, Jagjit Singh produced three full-length solo EPs (EPs), two duet EPs with Chitra Singh, and a “SuperSeven” ( a form that has disappeared). He made his debut as a playback singer with the song “Laagi Ram Bhajan Ni Lagani” in the 1966 Gujarati film “Bahuroopi”.
He made his Bollywood debut as a singer in the film Avishkaar (1974), singing the song “Babul Mora Naihar”.
In 1988, Jagjit Singh composed the music for Gulzar’s epic TV series Mirza Ghalib, which was telecast on DD National.

In 2011, Jagjit Singh was scheduled to perform with Pakistani Ghazal and playback singer Ghulam Ali during a UK tour, but he was canceled on 23 September 2011 A cerebral hemorrhage occurred. - Jagjit chose to pursue higher education at DAV College, Jalandhar, as the principal of the college had waived hostel and tuition fees for the talented musician student.
- While in Jalandhar in 1962, he composed a welcome song for the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, when he visited Jalandhar.
- In the 1960s, he went to Bombay (now Mumbai) to pursue a career in playback singing. There he met musician Jaikishan (from the group Shankar Jaikishan); he liked Jagjit’s voice but could not offer him any work. Soon Jagjit ran out of money and had to return to Jalandhar. In an interview, he recalled his return to Jalandhar and said:
I took a train from Mumbai to Jalandhar without a ticket and hid in the bathroom. “
- In 1965, Jagjit returned to Bombay and tried his luck again in playback singing. This time, he managed to record two ghazals for the EP with HMV. He decided to drop his turban and cut his hair short for the record cover photo. He explained,
It’s a matter of identity…no matter what photo I take, that’s how I have to stay for the rest of my career. “

- In Mumbai, Jagjit Singh started organizing small ‘Mehfils’ (musical gatherings) and house concerts. He even sang at a few movie parties, hoping that one day a musician would notice him and give him a chance.
- In order to make a living, Jagjit began composing music for commercial films, radio songs, documentaries, etc.
- While recording one such song in 1967, he met the unhappily married Chitra Singh. She divorced her husband and married Jagjit Singh. Their wedding ceremony was very simple, lasting only 2 minutes and costing 10 lakh rupees. 30 pieces.

- In 1990, Jagjit and Chitra lost their only son, Vivek. Chitra lost her voice and never regained her singing. Jagjit fell into depression for a while, but due to his persistence in music, he decided to return to the music industry.
- His first album after his son’s death was Man Jitai Jagjeet, which contained the Sikh pious Gurbani.
- In 1991, the album “Sajda” with Lata Mangeshkar superseded all non-film records.
