James Gunn, director Supermanwas unhappy that a French news network was airing a fake AI-generated trailer for a 2025 movie. The clip was used on France.tv but is no longer available on the original site, but Twitter user @foxhouet tweeted the video. His post caught the attention of DC Studios co-CEO, who responded:
Gunn’s tweet leaves no doubt about how he feels about the fake trailer. His entire reaction was just three vomit emojis. The video begins with late Superman star Christopher Reeve’s children Matthew, Alexandra and Will Reeve being interviewed to promote the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. Alexandra said: “We love you, Superman,Before there were deepfake images of David Corronthwaite’s Superman and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane.
Gunn has always disliked AI-generated images associated with his work. Earlier this year, fake photos claimed to be from the show’s cast Superman After coming out, when asked by fans if any of this was true, the director was quite forthright in sharing his thoughts. He draws attention to various errors in the image, which should alert the viewer to its authenticity:
Can the guy on the left take a photo of him holding the amorphous black blob while looking through the eyeball in the front of the hat? Does the man on the right have his torso growing out of his right hip? Would he be stupid enough to wear pants with a drawstring in the back? Are David Corronthwaite’s hands made of wax, without any bones or veins? Could Superman’s pants be knitted from yarn?
Gunn later added: “Ask yourself these questions and I believe you can answer this question for yourself. ” His comments left little room for debate. While the AI-generated trailer features typical Superman imagery and therefore somewhat resembles the actual movie, it’s entirely fan-made.
What we think of the superhuman AI situation in France
The clip is in poor taste for a variety of reasons, from fake trailers to the even more uncomfortable use of footage of Reeve’s children. They were promoting a documentary honoring their late father, so the choice of this clip was particularly bad. Networks should review content before airing it. Beyond that, the use of artificial intelligence is a complex issue, especially when the content is misrepresented as official. It’s understandable that Gunn would be upset.
As for when the actual trailer will be released, Gunn said during the NYCC panel: “We’ll see a trailer soon, but not too soonIn fact, he said he had a video on his phone that he took off his body in case someone attacked him. Gunn seems to indicate that it will take a while before an official trailer is released, but with that in mind Superman “Man of Steel” will be released in July 2024, and it won’t be long before we see the trailer for the next “Man of Steel” movie.
“Superman,” written and directed by James Gunn, is Warner Bros.’ first film. Reboot the DC Universe, centered on comic book heroes. After Henry Cavill exited the character in Man of Steel, it introduced a new version of Man of Steel that paid tribute to the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
