James Middleton Reveals Baby Boy’s Unique Name — Which Is Famous from The Princess Bride!

James Middleton and Alizee Thevenet chose a name with (fictional!) royal connections for their son.

On Friday, Kate Middleton’s brother shared the first photos of his son on Instagram. The post also revealed the name of their new addition: Inigo.

“He’s only been in our lives for a few weeks, but meeting our beautiful boy was the most special of my life,” the new dad wrote on the social network. “No matter how prepared I thought I was… I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotions of first meeting Inigo and the love for my dear Alizée when we became three.”

According to NameBerry, Inigo is of Spanish/Basque origin and means “fiery”.

The site adds: “Inigo, virtually unknown in the US, is an intriguing choice, with its strong rhythm, creative and evocative sound, and associations with the great early British architect and set designer Inigo Jones. The sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Jones shared his name with his by his father, a London watchmaker, who got him when Spanish names for boys were fashionable in England, especially among devout Roman Catholics.”

Many might recognize the name by princess bride, William Goldman’s 1973 novel that inspired the popular 1987 film adaptation. The character of Inigo Montoya — famous for the line, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die” — was played by Mandy Patinkin in the film.

As James is a known dog lover, it was no surprise that his pets played a role in the baby’s first photos.

“The dogs have been fantastic at accepting their little brother into the pack (although Inka must know that bears aren’t all for her…),” James revealed of his six pets: Mabel, Zulu, Inka, Luna, Nala and Isla.

The first carousel photo on Instagram featured a pin (which he wore to King Charles’ coronation earlier this year) featuring James’ beloved pooch Ella, who died earlier this year. James credited his pup with introducing him to his wife, sharing the 2019 feature with him. The Telegraph that he met Alizee because his cocker spaniel “made a beeline” for a French financial analyst at an event.

“We settled into our new life as parents and I told him all about Ella and if it wasn’t for her he wouldn’t be here today and we miss him so much,” James wrote.

After meeting in 2018, James and Alizee became engaged a year later and tied the knot in France in September 2021 after their original wedding date was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple announced during the summer that they are expecting their first child.
