James Van Der Beek Says He's 'Still Processing' His 'Magical' Family Vacation to Egypt

James Van Der Beek fills his summer with family time.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 26, the actor, 47, showed off breathtaking photos from his recent trip to Egypt with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek and their six children.

“#Egypt… With all my vocabulary, ‘Wow’ is what came out of my mouth most of the time. We had a magical experience, which I’m still processing – and may be for the rest of my life,” the actor wrote at the start of his lengthy caption .

The post begins with a photo of a family standing next to a camel, with three Egyptian pyramids in the background. Other images show children playing with desert sand and sitting next to each other while taking in picturesque scenes.

“The kids were rock stars, my friends became brothers, and despite all the travel and time zone crossings and early morning alarms, I feel recharged,” Van Der Beek continued in his caption.

“I expected a metaphysical element to the trip, but I was surprised by how deeply I felt the spiritual resonance of all these temples,” he wrote. “I mean, they are ‘temples’ after all (duh), but whatever presumptions I had about these alien structures as ‘antiques’ faded as soon as I stepped inside them.”

Van Der Beek ended his caption by sharing that he left the “holy places” with “reverence and awe” and that his “eyes, heart and soul were enlarged.”

Kimberly also shared photos from their experience abroad on Instagram, noting that their trip included camel riding in the desert, “a fire with tea” and “watching the kids run free breaking rocks, running, sliding down the sand and all while were looking at the pyramids.”

“The sun sets while the full moon rises – it shines brightly. We watched the locals playfully chase their horses across the desert,” she added. “Riding the camel back – walking through the small village streets – people live simply, their windows are open, the smell of Egyptian food wafts through the air. It was heaven.”
