James Van Der Beek is raising money for “families recovering from the financial burden of cancer.”
The College blues alum, 47, revealed on Instagram and Facebook on Nov. 22 that he’s selling merchandise in honor of the 1999 sports movie’s 25th anniversary — all for a good cause.
For the post, Van Der Beek posed in a series of nostalgic photos holding a soccer ball and wearing a replica West Canaan Coyotes jersey, similar to the one worn by his College blues character, Jonathan “Mox” Moxon.
“Drop! Excited to celebrate #VarsityBlues 25th anniversary with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey — each one personally autographed by me,” Van Der Beek captioned the images. “Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB.Shop.”
“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇),” he added.
The jerseys are currently available on Van Der Beek’s website and come in multiple sizes, with two prices available: a $40 standard replica jersey and an $80 actor autographed jersey.

Van Der Beek’s fundraising effort comes after Dawson’s Creek star revealed to PEOPLE last month that he was diagnosed with colon cancer. At the time, he said he was “taking steps to resolve this, with the support of my amazing family”. He and his wife Kimberly have six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.
The actor also addressed his cancer diagnosis in a Thanksgiving post he shared on Instagram on Thursday, November 28. Next to a photo of his family, Van Der Beek wrote: “It’s been a tough year… and I’m grateful for it all.”
“Because of a giant life, cancer got in my way. For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends who are going through such a deep level, and in ways that I could never ask for if I hadn’t been through it,” he continued.
Van Der Beek also said he was “thankful to each and every one of you who reached out and sent good vibes and prayers,” adding, “It all makes sense and makes a difference.”
“I am more grateful than ever to my superhuman wife who has performed at levels I never knew were possible,” he wrote. “Who showed me what unconditional love is and the magic that comes from it. I’m in awe of you, @vanderkimberly. And of course, I am immensely grateful for the little blonde army of hearts that keep me present, active and inspired just by being you.

In addition to selling goods, Van Der Beek will contribute to the cause by participating in The real Full Montyspecial event where he will be joined by a “bold group of male celebrities” who have volunteered to strip down and raise awareness for prostate, testicular and colon cancer testing and research.
The two-hour special features Van Der Beek alongside Anthony Anderson, Taye Diggs, Chris Jones, Tyler Posey and Bruno Tonioli as they train and rehearse for “the most revealing performance of their careers.”
“Until the final disrobing, the men will stretch their boundaries, test their modesty and strengthen their bond through a series of trials and experiences, private and public, designed to build confidence and push them out of their comfort zones and forge a brotherhood,” the official diary reads. “Along the way, each of the celebrities will share their personal stories about how cancer has affected their lives.”
