Jamie Lynn Spears Breaks Silence on Relationship with Britney on I’m a Celebrity: ‘I Love My Sister’

Jamie Lynn Spears clarified her relationship with older sister Britney.

During a conversation with TV host Fred Sirieix on Saturday’s episode of the British reality TV show I’m a celebrity…Get me out of hereThe 32-year-old actress opened up about growing up with the pop superstar and commented on how she feels about Britney today.

Sieieix, 51, opened up by asking Jamie Lynn to recall her memories of Britney’s infamous kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV VMAs and explain how it came about. “They just did it. I was at home watching it like, ‘Oh OK, this is going to be fun at school tomorrow, I can’t wait,'” she said.

Jamie Lynn then spoke about how she looked up to her sister since she was a child. “Everything my sister did, I always thought was the best,” she explained. “When it came to my sister, even if I felt anything, if anyone said anything, I was ready to leave. I said, ‘Don’t talk about my sister, she’s the best.’ ”

She added of Britney and Madonna’s iconic VMAs performance, which also featured Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott: “And I literally thought that – and, by the way, in today’s world it wouldn’t mean anything – but it was an iconic moment where went with, and that’s what happened, and that’s what they did.”

Recalling the time of the performance, Jamie Lynn said of her mother Lynne’s reaction: “My mom said, ‘It’s artistic, she’s expressing herself.’ ”

Sieieix asked curiously Sweet magnolias star, “Who Got Famous First?”

Jamie Lynn said of Britney (41): “My sister, she’s 10 years older. She’s been famous since I was 6 or 7.”

Fellow contestant Frankie Dettori then joined the conversation, asking Jamie Lynn: “Is it true that you don’t agree with [Britney] now?”

She simply replied, “I love my sister.”

For the show’s 23rd season, the mum-of-two jetted off to the Australian outback to compete for the Queen of the Jungle crown alongside controversial former British politician Nigel Farage.

Before flying to Australia, Zoey 101 The alum said the show was “a nice opportunity to show who I really am.” She added: “There’s literally every misconception you can have about me as a person, so I don’t take any of it seriously.”

One of the biggest controversies in Jamie Lynn’s life is her strained relationship with her older sister. Despite a nearly ten-year age difference, Britney and Jamie Lynn — who recently competed at the Dancing with the Stars — they shared a close bond growing up in their hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.

For most of their lives and careers, Britney and Jamie Lynn have supported each other and worked together on projects, including Britney’s film debut Intersection and Zoey 101. But in recent years – as Britney’s 13-year guardianship came to an end – their relationship became strained, with the two publicly falling out over the publication of Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I should have said: family, fame and invention in January 2022.

“I love and support my sister, and I always will. It’s very clear that this has been a painful process and I have to respect how she works through it,” Jamie Lynn told PEOPLE at the time, two months after Britney’s conservatorship ended. . “This is a complicated situation. There comes a certain point where you can’t help someone who doesn’t want it.”

Meanwhile, in his bombshell memoir, The woman in mewhich was released in October and featured exclusively in PEOPLE, Britney spoke openly about their troubled relationship.

The star also expresses the opinion that Jamie Lynn profited from her misfortune. “While I was fighting conservatives and getting a lot of media attention, she was writing a book capitalizing on it. She told indecent stories about me, many of them painful and outrageous,” Britney said in her memoirs.

However, Britney also writes about her hopes that her relationship with Jamie Lynn can be saved.

“She will always be my sister and I love her and her beautiful family. “I’m working on feeling more compassion than anger towards her, and everyone I feel has wronged me,” the “Hold Me Closer” singer shared.
