News about Janet Protasiewicz
Justice Janet Protasiewicz emphasizes fairness and impartiality in her campaign to become the next Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice with just one week to go before Election Day. One of the last two videos posted on Tuesday begins with the narrator saying: “Our rights and freedoms will be protected by Judge Janet Protasiewicz. She will be independent, neutral and fair.”
While her opponent, former judge Daniel Kelly, is not specifically named in the same ad, it characterizes him as an “extremist” and calls her a “common sense judge.”
In last week’s debate between the two candidates, the issue of fairness and fairness came up, with Kelly trying to portray Protasiewicz as a biased Democrat for accepting contributions from the state Democratic Party. Using Kelly’s legal representation of the state Republican Party as evidence, Protasiewicz tried to portray Kelly as a moderate Republican.
In his latest ad, Protasiewicz discusses his views on abortion, stating that he “believes in the freedom of women to make their own decisions when it comes to abortion.”
While the state Supreme Court is expected to decide the future of abortion rights in the state in the coming years, abortion has been a key issue in elections. Since the US Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade last year, Wisconsin is governed by an 1849 statute that prohibits virtually all abortions and makes them criminal.
According to ad tracking firm AdImpact, Protasiewicz has held a significant lead in on-air spending since the February primary. During the primary, her campaign spent about $9.3 million on television ads, compared to Kelly’s campaign spending of just over $577,000 during the same period.
Since the primary, Fair Courts America and the WMC Issues Mobilization Council, two organizations that support Kelly, have combined to spend more than $7 million. A new announcement was also released this week.
