Jax Taylor is clarifying a few things after filing an answer to Brittany Cartwright’s divorce filing.
A statement given to PEOPLE on Wednesday, October 2 through his rep read: “Jax and Brittany have long since resolved all custody issues of Cruz and will continue to work together privately for the best interests of their son, who remains theirs. Although Jax has made mistakes in filling out forms normally done by trained legal professionals, these errors will be corrected without delay.
The “mistakes” the affidavit refers to were in Jax’s Sept. 26 response to Brittany’s Aug. 27 divorce petition, where she sought primary custody of their 3-year-old son, Cruz.
In his response, obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE, Jax incorrectly said that he and Brittany were not legally married. The timeline of their relationship was also incorrect. He also checked the box that marked “other” when it came to determining child support, which led to confusion.
However, in his statement Wednesday, Jax said the couple had previously worked out Cruz’s custody.

A day after Cartwright filed for divorce, a source told PEOPLE that the couple — who met and married Vanderpump Rules — knew that a split was inevitable and were focused on co-parenting.
“This step was a long time coming and something Brittany knew she had to do in the best interest of herself and her son to move forward and stop this tumultuous cycle they were living in,” the source said. . “Jax has mixed emotions. He knows this is ultimately the right decision, but he’s sad that things ended up the way they did. It’s been an emotional month for him and he’s trying to stay strong for his son.”
They added: “Their main priority is to get to a place where they can be friendly co-parents to their son and hopefully this next stop will bring them closer to that goal.”
In September, Cartwright spoke to PEOPLE about the divorce, repeating claims that she wants to have a healthy relationship with Taylor in the future.

“It will take a while,” she continued. “Still, things are very raw between us, but for the most part, I know that if I need anything, if Cruz needs anything, I can call him and he’ll be there for us.”

I do it too'” Valley the star explained. “I don’t even know how to talk anymore without being labeled as one of these things.
