According to reports, Leno suffered “severe burns” on his face and hands. He was scheduled to speak at a financial conference in Las Vegas the following day, but canceled due to “a major medical problem.” A hospital spokeswoman also verified that he is in stable condition and is undergoing treatment for the burns he sustained. Jay Leno sustained significant injuries when one of his automobiles in his Los Angeles garage caught fire, leaving him with terrible burns on his face. Leno has been outspoken about having high cholesterol in recent years, and when he postponed his attendance at the event, several fans assumed he was dealing with a health problem related to his cholesterol. In 2019, he posted a video encouraging his fans to undergo regular cholesterol checks, stating alongside:

“There are a lot of individuals like him going around; they’re like ticking time bombs.” You don’t realize you have all this cholesterol until it strikes you, you know? It’s similar to how, in an automobile, if even one bit of dirt goes into the eye of the needle of the jet, there’s a bang and no more gas comes through. That is what happens to your heart.”
