Jay Slater cops spend two hours in holiday flat that Brit teen vanished from as mystery investigation continues

Police in Tenerife today searched the Airbnb apartment where Jay Slater was staying with two men in the hours before he disappeared.

Detectives spent two hours searching the remote holiday apartment in the Rural de Teno park, in north-west Tenerife.

After going to a rave in Playa de las Americas, apprentice bricklayer Jay heads to Masca with two Brits in the early hours

The 19-year-old from Lancashire shared the last Snapchat from his Airbnb showing a hand holding a cigarette at 7.30am.

Jay then tried to make his way back to his holiday accommodation – an 11 hour walk away.

But at around 8.50am he made one last frantic call to friend Lucy, telling her he was lost in the “middle of nowhere” with no water and only one per cent of battery left on his phone.

That set off a massive search for the teenager that involved drones, sniffer dogs and helicopters.

But after nearly two weeks, officers dramatically called off the search on Sunday.

Today, however, two plainclothes officers with blue forensic shoe covers were sent to scan the £40-a-night two-bedroom cottage called Casa Abuela Tina for clues.

Investigators said the two mystery Brits Jay was partying with on Airbnb were “not relevant” to their investigation.

So the renewed interest in the apartment that Jay left around 8am on June 17 is an interesting development and raises further questions about the direction of the police investigation.

It comes as Jay’s desperate parents say they are still no closer to finding their son despite a crucial meeting with officers today.

Jay Slater’s distraught mother says she’s ‘trying to stay positive’ after urging Tenerife police not to give up on her son

Debbie and Warren spent two and a half hours talking to the officers to get an update on the case.

Afterwards, distraught Debbie told The Sun: “It’s a mystery and he’s still missing, we’ve got to let these guys (the police) deal with it.”

She continued to urge the public not to forget their son saying: “Let’s keep it up, may he live.

“Let them (the police) work on it, we have to trust these people.”

Jay’s parents were notified by detectives at the local Civil Guard headquarters in Playa de Las Americas.

The couple arrived at the police station on the popular vacation island around 2 p.m.

Speaking from Tenerife, Warren added that he would return to the police station “when we are asked to”.

Last hour, the owner of the Airbnb where the men were staying said she gave the police all the information she had.

Ofelia Hernandez, who owns the holiday apartment, revealed that the couple who rented the accommodation were friendly, booked a few days at the cottage and spent a lot of time at the house.

She said she saw Jay walking uphill in a vast mountainous area near Masca the morning he disappeared.

Ophelia told MEN: “It’s dangerous to walk here, it’s easy to get lost.

“He was walking along the road when I last saw him.

“He was alone. He walked normally, though he was fast.”

On Monday, a Spanish judge found that there was “no current evidence of criminality” in the case.

Many believed that Jay could have been kidnapped or killed by a criminal group in the mountains.

But investigating judge Maria Goya, who is being briefed by police on developments, was told by the Civil Guard that there was nothing to indicate that Jay was the victim of a crime.

Jay’s devastated family were left “stunned” on Sunday when officers abruptly called off their search on Sunday.

His loved ones said they felt “left in the dark” about what will now happen with the investigation.

Jay’s mum Debbie and dad Warren Slater pleaded with police not to give up the search for their son during a brief interview yesterday.

Debbie said she was “trying to stay positive” despite no trace of Jay being found.

She told Good Morning Britain that she did not want his case to “lose momentum”.

A distraught Debbie also said it was “important that the world is watching” despite police calling off the search.

She said she is, however, aware of the vile conspiracy theories being shamelessly peddled on social media.
