Jay Slater’s pal sparks MORE confusion claiming teen met mystery men DAYS before spending night at Airbnb & vanishing

JAY Slater’s friend now claims the missing teenager met two mystery Brits days before he disappeared.

The latest twist has caused further confusion after reports initially suggested that Jay first met the men in the early hours of June 17 – hours before he went missing.

New police updates and fresh “leads” have opened up more questions than answers in Jay’s mysterious disappearance two weeks ago.

The teenager has not been seen or heard from since June 17.

Jay’s close friend Brad Hargreaves spoke to ITV’s This Morning about the two mystery men who have since returned to the UK.

The couple are believed to have met Jay until three days before June 17 when he went missing, Brad told reporter Isla Traquair.

In a TikTok video, Isla opened up about the two men, recalling what Brad told her.

A TV crime reporter said: “The two men he went to meet them three days ago. They were hanging out with them, they became friends on holiday.

“He didn’t meet two random people that night. They struck up a friendship and Brad said they seemed like really cool guys.”

Brad was on holiday with Jay and their other friend Lucy Law at the three-day New Rave Generation music festival.

Lucy, who first reported the teenager missing, has yet to speak about the mysterious duo.

After going to a rave on Sunday night, apprentice bricklayer Jay headed to Masca with two men.

Jay Slater’s best friend says he heard him “skating on rocks” in last video call with teenager before he disappeared

He shared the last Snapchat from their Airbnb with his hand holding a cigarette at 7.30am.

He was holding a colorful blanket that Brad says was given to Jay by the men.

Jay then tried to make his way back to his holiday accommodation – an 11 hour walk away.

On the walk Jay made two phone calls known to the police – one to Brad and one to Lucy.

It comes as…

Brad opened up about their last conversation – saying Jay wasn’t initially worried about walking back to their accommodation.

But after a few minutes on the phone, he told This Morning he could hear Jay’s feet skidding on the rocks, signaling him to veer off the road.

Brad said, “That’s how I knew he went off the road because, you know, when you’re walking on gravel, or whatever, you can… you know what I mean, rocks.”

However, he admitted he wasn’t worried at the time as Jay assured him he was fine – but told his friend to put in his location.

Brad added: “We were both, like, laughing about it. He said, ‘look where I’m at.’

He said Jay then hung up because he had another call on hold – but promised to return the phone.

It is believed that Jay then spoke to Lucy and his attitude towards his situation worsened.

The teenager complained that he needed some water in the heat before his phone battery died – leaving Lucy panicking.

It’s still unclear why Jay didn’t wait at the Airbnb cabin to ask for help or supplies with his new friends.

Police news about the missing duo

The latest twist comes just days after private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas called the men “key witnesses” in the case.

The men were only asked to speak to officers briefly before being allowed to fly home to the UK.

Neither man has been spoken to since, Mark claims.

This resulted in questions as to why the pair were not asked to further assist in the investigations as time ran out.

Cipriano Martin, head of the Greim Civil Guard mountain rescue unit, was asked about two mysterious men who were partying with the teenager on the night he disappeared.

Mr Martin claimed the two had nothing to do with Jay’s disappearance.

He said: “We are mountain experts and we are in charge of the search here and Civil Guard investigators are the ones responsible for the investigation.

“These people have been spoken to and they have no relevance to the case.”

But former detective Mark – who worked on the Madeleine McCann case – claims he has managed to solve the mystery and believes the duo could help.

Both are said to be in their late 30s or early 40s and from Luton, Bedfordshire, with one nicknamed “Johnny Vegas”.

Neither are believed to have been at the NRG music festival where Jay spent the day partying before he disappeared.

“The family is desperate for these people to come forward as witnesses. They are not helping at the moment,” added Mark.

“The group was sitting outside on the wall outside the club after the night ended. Witnesses say he appeared to be quite in control.

“What we don’t know is why he went with them.”

A ‘massive’ search is underway

Tenerife police launched a major search operation on Saturday to find a British man who has been missing for two weeks.

The search for missing Jay reached a make-or-break point this weekend with officers seeking help from expert explorers and climbers as they search the mountains where Jay may have been lost.

However, only six volunteers reportedly showed up, according to Tiktoker Paul Arnott (29), who flew in to help in the search.

Jay’s father Warren and older brother Zak were seen at the scene of the search.

Speaking on the mountainside, Warren said: “It’s a bit disappointing that there are no Brits apart from Paul, but I guess to them he’s just a Brit who came here and got drunk.

“I’m grateful to those who came out here because you can see how dangerous it is and what gets me is the trolls who attack us because we’re not looking.

“It’s not a local park, these are big mountains, the terrain is dangerous, put yourself in our position, would you go out in these conditions?

“It’s difficult, it’s difficult, we leave it to the professionals and I’m grateful to those who showed up today and I want to thank them for what they do.”

Despite the fact that the police made a big appeal for professional volunteers, it is not known why more people did not respond to the call for help.

Spanish police officers also refused help from their British counterparts as they insisted last week that they had all the resources they needed.

A source told The Sun: “There’s a feeling this weekend is going to be absolutely crucial. A huge amount of resources and effort has gone into the next 48 hours.

“It’s not all or nothing, but investigators are sincerely hoping that this weekend will provide the breakthrough they’re hoping for.”

Officers also announced they were opening an investigation into the theft of a Rolex watch just hours before Jay went missing.

Taxi drivers and bar staff working near the Papagayo Beach Club on June 17 will be questioned by investigators after a fight allegedly broke out on the Tenerife coast.

Jay was seen partying in the bustling space shortly before closing time.

It is unclear how Jay’s disappearance may be connected to the incident – but officers are reportedly examining CCTV footage from security cameras.

And now officers are hoping to speak to new witnesses who may have seen the fight – and have information about Jay.

A source in Tenerife told The Sun: “We will look at any leads that could give information about Jay’s whereabouts.”
