Jayantilal Gada is an Indian film producer and distributor of Indian films. In 1987, he founded the popular Indian film production and distribution company Pen Studios (formerly Pen India Limited).

Gada and Reshmaa Kadakia, the head of Pens Studio’s finance and accounting department, are attracted to each other, but since Gada is already married to Hansa, he cannot marry his new love. Somehow, the two got together and started calling each other “husband and wife.” He has an illegitimate son from Reshma who studies filmmaking. Gadda said of his love life in an interview:
As a Hindu, I cannot be married twice, so although I cannot marry Reshma, she is no less than a wife to me. We have been together for 22 years and have a son. “

The origins of trade
After completing 10th standard, Gada started working in his father’s shop. He continued doing this for two years, then out of boredom he opened a video library in his father’s store and named it the Pop Video Cassette Company. There, he used to give out rented film cassettes for Rs. 10. His father didn’t like his business, so he started renting video recorders. He also started a video photography company where he shot weddings and charged Rs. 10,000 per event. At the age of 25, Jayantilal Gada acquired the film rights from Dhirubhai Shah. The business suffered some losses, leading to Gada’s bankruptcy. Heera Seth Ltd. of Esquire Video Film Services Pvt. teaches Jyantilal about copyright. In an interview, Gada talked about how he embarked on the road to success after working with Doordarshan and said:
So we proposed an innovative policy to DD where we could buy a three-hour slot from them, show a movie on it, and sell advertising to recoup the cost. The policy was passed and they awarded the rights to NFDC who further sold the slot machines to us. The government, us and the filmmakers all made money. “
In an interview in 2014, while talking about how his career has flourished, Jyantilal said that he had always dreamed of presenting a 3D version of Sholay on television. Furthermore, he added,
it [Sholay] It is still in theaters and therefore, GP Sippy sahab does not want it to appear on television lest it go against the normal price of Rs. A TV movie cost 25 lakhs and he asked me for rupees. 125 crores, I knew I couldn’t afford it. But I was determined. We convinced DD to treat Sholay as three films so that they could give us three times the TV airtime in rupees. 125 crores and they did it. Can you imagine a Sholay show running for about 9 hours because it has so many commercials and we play every song twice? While we did trouble the audience, the film had a record TRP of 76 which remains a benchmark till today. Through Sholay, I made both money and fame. I had bought the rights to air it twice and then I went to Sony TV and convinced them to air it. “

On March 31, 1987, Jayantilal Gada founded a film production and distribution company in Mumbai and named it Pen India Limited; now known as Pen Studios. The production company is primarily responsible for the production and distribution of films in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. In 1992, Gada’s business was reorganized into “Popular Entertainment Network (PEN) India Limited”. Pen Studios in Gada is known for being a loyal buyer of Zee Entertainment Enterprises. In 2000, Gada became the Managing Director of Pen Studios. He retired in 2014 at the age of 52. On November 3, 2014, his son Dhaval Gada was appointed as the successor of Pen Studios; however, due to some reasons, Jayanti Lal returned to the office on April 1, 2016.

Apart from producing, Gada has also delivered award-winning films like RRR (2022) and Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022). As of 2023, Pen Studios has generally acquired rights to distribute Hindi films to television networks such as Zee TV, Sony Entertainment Television, Sahara One and Disney Star. Jayantilal Gada is the copyright holder of several films, including Sauda (1995), Kohram (1999), Lal Baadshah (1999), Kitne Door Kitne Paas (2002), Shararat (2002) and Yeh Mera India (2008).

The investigation wing of the Mumbai Income Tax Department started an investigation on April 19, 2023, against the popular production house for alleged tax evasion. Among the major production houses are Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios and his home. The producer is reportedly under investigation by tax authorities for suspected tax evasion and financial irregularities. Searches began in the morning at his office and residence and continued into the evening. Another producer whose office and residence were raided was Vinod Bhanushali.

About the remake of the Tamil film Anniyan (2005) starring Ranveer Singh, producer Aascar Ravichandran in 2021 A case was filed against producers Jayantilal Gada and S. Shankar. It is said that the remake of the film was announced without the knowledge of Ravichandran. He said in an interview that he has raised the matter with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce SIFCC. Ravichandran said that only he owns the rights to the film and others would infringe on those rights. He added that the film could not be made again without his consent.

Gangubai Koshwali’s adopted son sues
In April 2021, Gangubai’s adopted son Babuji Shah allegedly accused actress Alia Bhatt, directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Jayanti Lal Ghada and writer Hussain Zaidi gave a wrong impression and inaccurate depiction of facts to his mother in the film Gangubai Katiawadi. The film is based on the real life of Gangubai Kothewali. At a meeting, Gangubai family lawyer Narendra Dubey said,
The way Ganguba is described is completely wrong and baseless. This is vulgar. You represent a social activist as a prostitute. What family would like that?You have made her [Gangubai] A Vamp and Ms. Tang. “
He further said that the case is before the court and the court has asked Babuji Raj Shah to produce evidence to prove that he is indeed Gangubai’s son. He further said,
While we have proven this in court, there has not yet been a hearing on the matter. “
Finally he said,
They have been asking Gangubai’s family if she was actually a prostitute and not a social worker as they claimed. The whole family is in a bad mental state. No one can live and work in peace and contentment. “

- In an interview, Gadda spoke of his success and said he was proud of being someone who sold celebrity tapes and made movies with them. He further added,
What could be more important to me than this? From that point on, my journey was all about money. I’m interested in movies, not money. “
- Garda said in an interview that he would not have achieved his dream if Hansa had not been there.
- In 2021, Jyantilal Gada was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai where he underwent heart surgery and doctors installed a pacemaker in his heart.
