Death of Jeffrey Huard
The spiritual director of the seminary, Jeffrey Huard, unfortunately passed away at the age of 68. His friends, family and community are all in great sorrow. Huard’s life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to serving people spiritually and mentoring them on their spiritual paths. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1955, Jeffrey Huard had a profound impact on the community throughout his life. He graduated from Saint Paul Seminary and was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul in 1994.
Huard served as chaplain of the Community of Christ the Redeemer in West St. Paul (1996 – 1999), director of campus services at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul (1999 – 2007), parish vicar of the parish of All Saints. in Lakeville (1994 – 1997), and pastor of the parish of St. Mark in St. Paul (2007 – 2009) among other duties over the years. Huard was also a proud member of the priestly brotherhood of the Companions of Christ, and for a time was a moderator. He oversaw the seminary’s spiritual formation program from 2009 to 2021, and continued to mentor students after he left that position.
The priesthood holds Huard in high esteem, remembering him as a kind, compassionate and pious man who devoted a significant part of his life to helping seminarians and other priests on their spiritual journey towards Christ. The public has still not been informed of the cause of Jeffrey Huard’s death. More information on the cause of death will be released in due course. Saint Paul Seminary posted a Facebook post about his death. In memory of Rev. Huarda, community of Eagan, Minnesota, plans to plan a funeral service together at the parish of St. John Neumann. There will be a visitation on Friday, November 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. At 19:00 there is an evening prayer for the dead. The memorial service is scheduled for this Saturday, November 25, at 10 a.m., and the funeral will follow immediately.
