According to recent reports, iCarly actress Jennette McCurdy has spoken out about her experiences with abusive behavior on the sets of her Nickelodeon series. McCurdy spoke about her previous horrific experiences with Nickelodeon programs where she was allegedly abused before the release of her book on August 9, I’m Glad My Mom Died.
The former actress also said the network gave her $300,000 in secret money. Jennette McCurdy, 30, said in a recent interview with The New York Times that there were discussions within the network about paying her a lump sum on the condition that she pledge never to publicly discuss her experiences while working on the show. After her remark about unpleasant experiences on the show, many netizens assumed she was referring to iCarly creator Dan Schneider. One such tweet hinted that this isn’t the first time, and that Schneider isn’t the first network executive to be accused of similar behavior. The tweet read:
“Since Dan Schneider is trending, let it be known that this isn’t the first time Nickelodeon has . . .”

What exactly are the allegations against iCarly creator Dan Schneider? Jennette McCurdy’s proposal on violent behavior
Jennette McCurdy originally played Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon series called iCarly from 2007 to 2012. When the program was rebooted last year, the actress did not return. Following the conclusion of the first season of iCarly, McCurdy returned to her role on Sam and Cat, playing global music phenomenon Ariana Grande. Jennette McCurdy has reportedly hinted at a big Nickelodeon role as ‘The Creator’ in her upcoming biopic I’m Glad My Mom Died. She painted a horrific picture of the man, saying he was “mean, domineering and terrifying”, and that he “made grown men and women cry with his insults and humiliations”.
It’s hard to guess that McCurdy was referring to Dan Schneider, the creator of iCarly and many other Nickelodeon shows. Many lawsuits have been filed against the producer and screenwriter because of his behavior on the sets of Nickelodeon productions. As a result, it’s entirely possible that the iCarly star’s memoir was about her harrowing experiences on her programs with Schneider.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Jennette McCurdy mentioned other unpleasant interactions she had with the “designer.” She stated:
“It is necessary to talk. His behavior was so widespread and so acceptable because everyone was afraid of losing their jobs. I don’t hold it against any of them. I understand. But everything that happened in the context of a children’s television series was really awful. There doesn’t seem to be much of a moral compass there.”
Jennette McCurdy allegedly endured inappropriate behavior from the man, including an attempt to force her to drink alcohol after she turned 18 and shoulder massages, according to the WaPo. Although unsubstantiated, this could be why McCurdy was allegedly promised $300,000 by the network to keep her accusations quiet.
Dan Schneider has already faced lawsuits.
Prior to the latest scandal, multiple sources revealed that Dan Schneider received numerous abuse allegations in 2018. After that, various newspapers reported that Schneider’s contract with Nickelodeon was terminated due to the allegations made against him. Schneider referred the allegations to Deadline last year. He justified himself by saying:
“I could not, nor would I have had so many long-standing friendships and constant loyalty from distinguished people if I had mistreated my performers of any age, especially children.”
People may find him tough because of his “high standards,” according to the producer. Then he said:
“I never connected with the cast in any way that made anyone uncomfortable, texting or otherwise.”
Although there have been multiple reports of Schneider’s abuse and misconduct, no serious public complaints have been made against the manufacturer.
