LA fires live: 11 dead, officials say, as new fires, high winds challenge responders
WCK, celebrity chef José Andrés’ non-profit organization that has been providing food aid during international crises since 2010, has gathered across Southern California to feed affected communities since the fires broke out on Tuesday, January 7th.
Katie Couric spoke with Garner and Andrés about their efforts in a video posted to her Instagram on Friday afternoon.
“Well, first of all, zero percent applies to me because I have my own home and I’m safe,” the actress began. “I’m not a spokesperson for people who have been through this. But obviously it’s pretty devastating to witness. I think everyone’s in shock, honestly, Katie. I just don’t think it’s even started to hit us yet.”

Garner then reflected on her previous work with the non-profit organization Save the Children.
“When I’ve gone to flood sites or hurricane evacuations or just disasters, you leave scared of what you’re going to see and you always leave filled with hope, faith and humanity, and that’s the opportunity here,” she said.
While Garner noted that Save the Children is currently ramping up its response to the wildfires, she added, “The first thing you do is feed people.”
“And that’s what he did,” she said of Andrés. “So I just turned to him through Sava and I said, ‘How can I put my hands to work?’ I’m happy too, and I know everyone in LA is desperate to be engaged at work, and I’ve made it to the top with Chef, which is very, very lucky.”
