Jennifer Garner hopes for the best for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.
While Affleck, 51, and Lopez, 54, have been having marital problems just under two years since they tied the knot, a source tells PEOPLE that Garner “wants the best for” ex-husband Affleck.
“She wants him to be happy and healthy so he can be the best dad he can be,” says the source. Garner (52) and Affleck have three children: Violet (18), Seraphina (15) and Samuel (12).
The source adds that Garner, who is dating Cali Group chairman and CEO John Miller, “loves that [Lopez] lives a healthy lifestyle and supports Ben’s sobriety. Jen wants that for Ben.”

Affleck and Garner married in 2009. The former couple announced their separation in 2015 and officially filed for divorce in April 2017; their divorce was finalized the following year.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 and married in July 2022. Lopez promoted her film Satin in Los Angeles and Mexico solo as Affleck continues filming his upcoming project Accountant 2 in Los Angeles. The couple has been living apart from each other in LA for the past few weeks.

In 2020, Affleck told PEOPLE that he felt “a lot of gratitude and respect” for Garner and spoke of the need for their children to see both parents continue to communicate and get along after the divorce.
“Our marriage didn’t work, and that’s hard. “We both really believe that it’s important for children to see their parents respect each other and get along, whether they’re together or not,” he said at the time.
“It’s important that my kids know that I respect Jen and that I care about her and that she treats me the same way,” Affleck added. “I have great respect and gratitude for her. And I wish her the best.”
