Jenny Mollen is speaking out after documenting her lice infestation during a five-hour flight.
The actress and author, 45, first described the incident in detail in a video she shared on Instagram on Tuesday, October 29, in which she can be seen with a plastic bag over her head. He appears to be sitting in first class on a flight from Los Angeles to New York.
“I’m on the plane with Caroline, and she just looked at my head,” he begins in the video, referring to his companion sitting next to her. “And remember when I told you last week that my head was itching and I thought I was having perimenopause symptoms?”
Bringing the camera closer to her face, she continues: “Guess what? I have fucking ears.”
“I can’t even come to an agreement. This is crazy, people, this is crazy. We have a five hour flight. I’m carrying a bag in which these got on my head,” he adds, showing the headphones provided by an airline he didn’t specify.

Mollen, who is married to Orange is the new black and American Pie actor Jason Biggs, notes that she’s “never had lice in her life” and explains that since she’s been itching for a while, the lice have probably “lived on me for two weeks.”
Mollen received numerous comments criticizing her actions documented in the video.
“You shouldn’t be on a plane and that bag should cover ALL of your hair!!!” one person wrote, referring to the plastic bag. Another added: “Better let the flight attendants know. I would go crazy on you if I were a passenger near you…”
One comment read: “That’s disgusting. You will spread it all over the plane. You should be ashamed, and you’re making a video laughing about it.”

In a follow-up video she shared from her home the next day, she describes how her entire house is “infested with lice” as she sits with a towel wrapped around her shoulders.
“We peel the ears. We put shampoo on last night and killed everything,” she says, referring to the little bugs. “Now there are dead bodies being pulled out of my head.”
The mum-of-two revealed her husband only had “two eggs” in his hair, while their sons Lazlo, 5, and Sid, 8, had full-on “infestations”.
She continues: “I know, a seat on an airplane, it’s a shame for whoever sits there next. I want to be clear, I didn’t know I had lice until I was on the plane. I thought I was going through perimenopause and for about three weeks I just had an itchy scalp.”
“We only blame my husband for not looking at my head carefully enough,” she adds, noting that she asked Biggs to check if he might have lice, and he said he didn’t.

Lice affect about six to 12 million people each year, and the most common symptom is an itchy scalp, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The spread of lice can only be caused by “direct contact” between people or by sharing personal items such as a comb, brush or hat, according to the clinic. Insects only have the ability to crawl, they do not fly or jump between individuals.
To prevent the spread of lice, the clinic advises not to share personal items that touch your hair or head. You should also have your scalp examined as soon as possible if you have symptoms or think you may have been exposed.
