The current development of the Diriyah project, which was first announced in 2017, covers an area of 14 square kilometers. There are three phases being worked on: Diriyah Gate 1, Diriyah Gate 2 and Diriyah Gate 3. (DG3). DG1 is now being created with a focus on Saudi culture and tradition, and will feature a total of 24 cultural elements on its north side. On the other hand, the south wing of DG1 will have 1,600 homes that can house 6,000 people.
All structures being developed in DG1 will adhere to the Najdi design of mud brick architecture, which blends perfectly with the neighboring At-Turaif district. In terms of size, more than 180 million adobes have already been produced for the project; if they were all lined up, they would stretch 3.7 times as long as the Great Wall of China.
It will be the largest mud brick city in the world, built as far as possible using conventional construction techniques and materials in the distinctive architectural style of the Najdi region. This anchors the project in Diriyah’s past and ensures that we honor this 300-year-old city in a true way. According to Jerry Inzerillo, Group Executive Director at DGDA, Diriyah has never been and never will be a place closer to Riyadh.
The sprawling Wadi Hanifah, which is about twice the size of Hyde Park and half the size of Central Park, stretches along the outer perimeter of Diriyah and has a rich, palm-fringed setting. A royal order prohibits the removal of palm trees in Wadi Hanifah at any time during the development of the area.
By 2030, Diriyah is expected to receive 27 million tourists a year. Your hospitality capabilities will be crucial in achieving those numbers. In total, 38 hotels will be present in the project. But 18 will open in the first phase, including 4 in Wadi Safar and 14 in nearby Diriyah.
It represents brands from around the world, including Emaar Hospitality Group’s Address Hotels and Resorts of the United Arab Emirates, Baccarat Hotels & Resorts of New York and Armani Hotel Milan, the third Armani hotel in the world. The Ritz-Carlton and The Luxury Collection, the latter of which will be the first hotel to open in Diriyah next year, will be backed by Marriott.
It will be the first Orient Express property in the Middle East, and Accor will have a presence in Diriyah under its Raffles and Orient Express brands. Furthermore, the Four Seasons, located in a famous building in the heart of Riyadh, has also announced its opening. Rosewood, which was once in Riyadh but left the city, will also return with a presence in Diriyah.
