The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL) selected Palmer 15th overall in the 2001 CFL draft. He spent a lot of time in the club, and was later transferred to other clubs. However, he retired from the CFL before the start of the 2007 season.
Palmer was also the first professional athlete to star on the reality television show The Bachelor. He pursued a career in broadcasting after retiring from football, first as a color commentator for Fox and then as an analyst and commentator for the NFL Network.
