Jewell Caples, an R&B singer with Death Row Records, died recently. Rapper Daz Dillinger announced the news on Instagram. The cause of the singer’s death has not been determined. However, two months ago she took to Instagram to talk about her health problems, stating that she was hospitalized on March 2 after doctors discovered 8 kilograms of fluid around her heart, lungs and legs. On March 16, she was readmitted to the hospital and discharged a few days later. Then she wrote:
“I almost died. He should have been transferred to another facility. GOD reversed my symptoms and extended his GRACE! And allowed me to spend more time with my family and friends! Thank you JESUS for saving my life once again! GOD THERE IS A!”

Jewell Caples has appeared on many multi-platinum R&B/hip-hop albums. From 1992 to 1996, she had a contract with Death Row Records. Caples recorded Shirley Brown’s song Woman to Woman. In 1994, the cover reached number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached number 16 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Caples then released Love or Lust, which appeared in the Bill Duke film Deep Cover as well as two tracks on the soundtrack of the 1994 sports film Above the Rim.
She is known as “The First Lady of Death Row Records”. She was also the co-author and self-publisher of the book Felicie St. Jean, My Blood My Sweat My Tears, 2011 The biography expanded on allegations of Dr. Dre’s homosexuality and those related to the death of Tupac Shakur.

Death Row Records is an American publishing house founded in 1991 by The DOC, Dr. Dre, Suge Knight and Dick Griffey. During the 1990s, the label became known for releasing multi-platinum hip-hop albums by West Coast musicians such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound and others. At its peak, the label was making around $100 million each year. However, it experienced a downturn with Tupac’s murder, Suge Knight’s incarceration, and the departure of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
Death Row was financially successful, but was marred by scandals such as lawsuits and violence by musicians and collaborators. The label declared bankruptcy in 2006 and was auctioned to WIDEawake Entertainment for $18 million in January 2009. The owner of WIDEawake, on the other hand, went bankrupt in 2012 and the label was sold to Entertainment One.
