The divorce of Jimmie Allen and his ex-wife Alexis has been finalized.

More than a year after filing in April 2023, the divorce was granted on Oct. 1 in Sussex County, Delaware, PEOPLE confirms.

Allen’s attorney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Allen, 39, and Alexis, 28, married privately in June 2020 and publicly again in May 2021. They have two daughters, Naomi Bettie, 4½, and Zara James, 3, as well as son Cohen Ace James, 13 months.

In April 2023, Allen shared a statement on Instagram announcing that he and Alexis, a registered nurse, had decided to end their marriage.

“After much thought and consideration in recent months, Lex and I have made the decision to part ways,” he said. Then he also revealed that they were expecting their third child together.

“As we go through this life change, we can also say that we will be welcoming another child together later this year,” Allen wrote. “Our number one priority is and always will be for our children to be healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect.”

Shortly after the announcement, Alexis shared a cryptic note on her Instagram stories.

“Silence is loud enough for me,” she wrote.

A month later, the “Best Shot” singer was sued by his former day manager, alleging that he sexually assaulted her on several occasions.

In the lawsuit, his former manager, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, claims he raped her on a work trip in Los Angeles in March 2021. Then, in May 2021, she claims the Grammy-nominated singer allegedly assaulted her again before it appears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Allen denied the allegations and claims.

“It is deeply troubling and painful that someone I considered one of my closest friends, colleagues and confidants would make claims that have no truth to them,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Allen continued: “I admit that we had a sexual relationship – one that lasted almost two years. During that time, she never once accused me of anything wrong, and she spoke of our relationship and friendship as something she wanted to continue indefinitely . . . It wasn’t until after things ended between us that she hired a lawyer to seek the money, which makes me question her motives, not only are her allegations very damaging it’s incredibly difficult to build my career and I intend to vigorously defend myself against her claims and take all other legal actions necessary to protect one’s reputation.”

Before the lawsuit, Alexis posted a message on her Instagram Story alluding to people trying to corroborate Jane Doe’s story.

“Keep up the chaos while I heal in peace,” she wrote. “My Instagram is not a helpline so please stop sending me messages about third parties.”

His former manager eventually agreed to drop his claims against the country star after reaching a “mutual settlement,” according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In May 2023, PEOPLE confirmed that Allen filed for divorce from Alexis in Williamson County, Tennessee on April 28, 2023. Two hours later, she filed for divorce of her own. Both cited irreconcilable differences.

Later that month, Allen apologized to Alexis for “humiliating her with my affair” in an Instagram post.

“I am embarrassed that my choices have embarrassed her. It is something she did not deserve,” reads the message of the Grammy-nominated singer.

He also apologized to his children “for being a bad example of a man and a father,” adding: “I’m working on becoming a better person that my children can be proud of.”

In July of that year, Allen hinted at a possible reconciliation in an interview with PEOPLE: “The divorce case is still ongoing, as my wife and I are working to resolve things together as a family,” he said.

Three months later, Allen’s rep told PEOPLE, “[The divorce] has never been fully considered legally.”

“They decided to work on things together and are still together,” the rep continued.

“I have six children. I love each and every one of them. I refuse to let anyone make me feel ashamed of any of my children. The only opinion I care about is theirs,” he wrote.

In an interview with Kathie Lee Gifford in April, he opened up about his relationship with Alexis.

“When I got married, I knew I wasn’t ready to be a husband,” he said. “Prioritizing my wife’s needs before my career—I wasn’t in the place for that, and I felt I wasn’t in the place to be faithful either.”
